Maya sat on top of the wooden picnic table under a willow tree.

The Matthews had invited her along for a picnic with them, to celebrate the end of their freshmen year.

She had decided to get there early, draw a little, or just watch and relax under the cool shade.

"Well, if it isn't the lovely Maya Hart." A deep and familiar voice said.

Maya let out a laugh before turning around and seeing Josh leaning against the tree behind her. She hadn't known he was coming too, so it was a pleasant surprise.

It often happened when they would see each other, and then suddenly become busy. It wasn't really anyone's fault in particular, but she didn't see him as often as she'd like to.

"Josh." Maya breathed out, tucking a large chunk of hair behind her ear.

"You look great." He told her, flashing a boyish grin. Her stomach fluttered and her heart skipped a beat.

The flirtation-ship they had always frustrated Maya, not to say she didn't enjoy these moments.

"Are you waiting for the Matthews too?" She asked, as she crossed one leg over the over.

Josh shrugged and stepped towards her casually.

"Maybe, or I might've come for another reason."

Maya sucked in a breath. He'd been different lately. Josh had teased her more often, and made her believe he would make a move when he really wouldn't.

So she looked away and huffed.

Josh stopped walking and stood right in front of her, staring straight at her face.

Merely inches away he smiled at her and laughed.

"Maybe I came to see you."

Maya could've melted right then and there if she wasn't sitting on that wooden picnic table under the willow tree.
