"Hey! Maya!" She heard his voice say, his breath was ragged as if he'd been running.

She rubbed her temples and chewed anxiously on her bottom lip.

"Did I catch you at a bad time?" Maya asked, the concern evident in her soft voice.

"No!" He said a little louder than Maya thought he ever would. She couldn't help, but laugh at him. An adult acting practically like a child.

"Did you want something?" Josh asked. Maya played with the ends of her hair, building up courage to be the one to ask him out this time.

"Yeah, I was just wondering if you were busy this weekend." Maya said, surprised at how she managed to get all the words out.

"I could clear my calendar." Josh teased, causing Maya to smirk at his playful demeanor.

"I have this art show coming up, and I'd really like you to be there." Maya said, butterflies causing chaos in her stomach.

This churning feeling was one Maya hated, it made her feel sick and scared.

"Are you asking me out on a date?" Josh asked, but Maya wasn't sure if he was trying to mess with her or actually wasn't clear.

"Yeah, I am." She answered.

"I have to go," Josh said with a sad tone. Maya almost hung up before he spoke again.

"I'll pick you up at seven."

Josh then abruptly hung up the phone and left Maya confused and extremely satisfied.

Maya Hart, had scored a date.

"Yes!" Maya shouted, into her empty bedroom. She usually hated phone calls, because you never knew what was happening on the other end. Even with his quick goodbye, Maya was too happy to care as she quickly disregarded her hatred for phone conversations and decided they weren't so overrated after all.
