Maddie's POV
"Ate how did you and ate Ara managed to save your friendship?"
I guess my question took her by surprise but then her face relaxed and she stared seriously at me. Her arm found its way around my shoulder once again.
"Acceptance." She said.
I didn't answer. I waited for her to continue and give me further explanation.
"I accepted that some things won't go the way I want them to be. I accepted that Ara can only love me as her sister and she accepted that I am in love with her that time. That it's not easy to just forget about it. She was patient with me and still treated me the way she does before I confessed."
I listen to her intently, her eyes are gazing upon our subject who's happily laughing along with her best friends, her arm wrapped around the girl she is in love with.
"Do you still love her?" She took her eyes off her and look at me.
"Of course. She's my best friend."
"No, I mean-"
"Am I still in love with her?"
"Yeah."
"Ara will always have a special spot in my heart. But like I said, I accepted that things are better this way. We both did." She smiled at me. And the respect I have for her doubled.
I've always admired ate Mika. How she handles things and try to make things better for her best friends.
She's the one who remained strong during the time ate Alyssa was facing the biggest test in her life. When ate Ly left without any word she's the one who never stopped hoping that soon ate Ly will come back and things will soon fall in their right places.
When everything was falling apart for all of us she became the liason who kept us together.
Those are the few things why I look up to her.
"How did you take it when you found out it's ate Bang she's in love with?"
"I was hurt, although I kind of expected it, I was still hurt. I can see how she looks at Bang, it's the same way I look at her. Deep down I knew it was Bang but like what they said you can expect it and prepare yourself but once you're confronted by it? You'll be a mess."
She took a deep breath and pulled me closer.
"Knowing the person you love is in love with someone else hurt already, what more if you found out it's with your other best friend."
I grew uneasy. I know it will be hard but I never knew it will be this hard.
I know all about Ate Mika's unrequited feelings for ate Ara but I didn't know it was like this.
"We almost lost it. Our friendship, not just between the three of us but all of us. Dennise wasn't herself because Ly left, Mela was broken because they found out about tito's health, there was a lot going on then our own issue added. We almost lost everything." Ate looks pained as she reminisce, she took another deep breath before giving me a smile.
"How?"
"We fought. We kept holding on even when it seems there's nothing to hold on to anymore. Deep down we were all holding to the common thing we all have."
She stared at me and I waited.
"The love we have for each other." Her real smile appeared, the one that reached her eyes.
"Our friendship means everything to us that we can't just back out without putting up a good fight."
"What are you two talking about? Your seriousness makes me want to cringe."
