Maddie's POV
I saw Jirah and Bea in the living room. Bea is curled up as she sit on the floor, I can't see her face but I can tell that she's crying. Her body is shaking.
Jirah looks anxious, she's bad when it comes to this. She's biting her lower lip as she rubs our best friend's back.
I quietly approached them, among all of us Bea is the strongest it's so rare to see her cry, she only does when she's really hurt.
The last time I saw her cry was when the incident happen. She didn't even cry when she broke up with her ex.
Seeing her like this feels alien. I gave Jirah a questioning look but she shrugged, I let out a sigh and sat in front of Bea.
"Hey." I said softly.
She tilted her head to look at us and there I saw the pain in her eyes, the glow that they have is gone, her eyes looks hopeless.
It broke me, us, to see her this way. My mind is still processing what I saw when we heard rushing footsteps coming our way.
Therese, Gizelle and Marge hurriedly went to where we are. They all look worried.
"Guys, what's wrong?" Gizelle asked anxiously, she crouched down and the two followed suit.
We are all now slumped on the floor. Bea's sobbing become louder and we gave each other a worried look.
"Beatriz, tell us what happened." Therese spoke softly but still with authority, she's the one who's good at this thing. She kept her composure.
"Jhoana." Bea mumbled, her voice is pained and broken.
"I love her." She smiled bitterly while wiping her tears away.
"Are you scared?" Marge
"No." Her voice is firm matching her statement, "She doesn't love me, heck, she hates me and you guys know that. She really does. I didn't know it will hurt this much." She started crying again.
We didn't know what to tell her to somehow make her feel better. Is there a way to make a brokenhearted person feel better? It will be dumb for us to tell her it's okay, because clearly it's not. And it's okay not to be okay sometimes.
So we hug her instead, knowing it will be enough to let her know we'll never leave her.
"You'll give up?" Jirah asked.
Bea smiled, quite close to her real one. Her eyes are still dull but there's a spark of determination as she say,
"For now."
We then fell silent. Our backs are rested on the huge couch, arms draped around each other as we stare on the wall full of paintings, Tita Det's precious gems.
It's so serene, the only sound are our breathing, and sometimes Beatriz sniffs.
This remind me of those times when one of us is sad, or when we're all sad. We'll find a spot and hold each other close, not saying anything because our presence is enough.
The scenario was almost perfect, almost, because my stomach growled completely ruining our moment.
Therese pulled away and smacked my head, the other's glares disappeared and laughed.
"You skipped dinner?" Tey asked, her eyebrows furrowed.
"Yeah. Ayoko ng ulam." I smiled sheepishly.
"Bakit hindi mo sinabi kay manang?"
"Nahihiya ako."
"Edi ikaw sana nagluto."
