Part 19: Network
                              Year: 1990
                              Time: 8:22pm
Location: "Sydney's Tower", Sydney CBD, NSW, Australia.
                              Level: 72nd Floor
"Alex, why did he call you doctor?" Kate asked, pulling my arm.
"I told you about how I could travel through time and how I was from the future, right? Before I started travelling and before I made this," I said gesturing to the device on my back, "I worked in a scientific research lab with many letters to my name. I was a well-known but humble 'Dr A.R. Julian'."
"But wouldn't you be very old if you were working in a place like that?..."
Jed had sat down and had made himself a coffee while I explained to Kate how I was old once, then I was given the gift of selective regeneration and how I was single back then and I had never been with another woman.
"Well... that's a relief," Kate chuckled awkwardly, feeling an incredible amount of relief.
                              I patted Kate's hand.
"Yes, sorry to trouble you. Oh Jed, sorry, I had to explain to Kate how-"
"That's alright, I prefer to wait until important issues are settled before lower priority conversations are engaged. Besides, Kate looked very concerned that there was something about you that she didn't know about."
"Thank you for being patient with us, Jed." Kate smiled.
"You are very welcome. Well, as for what I was talking about earlier, we had some contact with our branch in 2029 and the Que'nesians have been worried about you. I have sent them some messages to calm their nerves."
Jed said, sipping the last of his coffee.
"So when you said 'jurisdiction' for securing and conveying special cargo and people you weren't specific about telling me the time... because there was no specific time, hehe. Clever conversational structuring, Jed." I said with a tilt of the head.
"Thank you very much," Jed smiled, putting his coffee down. "Of course our services through time have to have very very accurate information before we provide our clients with services so we go to those in the know and make sure that things are safe. Some jobs are scary even for me."
I nodded and respected that Jed was strong enough to say he could be scared by something.
"Of course, you are a very important person in the history of mankind and have changed humanity's level of galactic awareness," Jed added, "So for you our services of protection are on the house. You are one of the core reasons that we exist here now."
"Looks like you have a lot of friends all over the place, Alex," Kate said with a proud, glowing smile on her face. "We have Jed and Sydney, those Que'nesians you told me about as well as your team in your lab."
"We are eternally in your debt not just for our jobs and freedom to use our special skills, but also for the many lives that have been saved because you provided the Quantum Query Gates to bring us here to setup our services. You truly are a brilliant man, Alex." Jed bowed deeply.
"Oh stop it, you're making him blush," Kate said, poking my cheek. I laughed and gently got Kate's finger off my face.
I then asked Jed, "Hey, I just thought of something. You surely have more things that you are responsible for then just taking care of me, right? What will you do if I have to leave this time from big threats? Will you come with me or make me stay here?"
He paused a while and thought over this. This was a difficult choice to make. He still wanted to spend time with his sister and her family but his responsibility here was great.
"Give me time to think about this and I'll make some arrangements. I will get back to you on this, Alex. You think ahead well, my friend. Meanwhile, let me show you to your room. You will stay here in the tower for now. You two don't mind sharing a room and a bed do you?"
Kate and I blushed and looked at eachother for a moment.
                              "Well I guess..." I started.
"We've been together... in the same bed before... But that was just for conversation." Kate added.
"Jed, let's just say that we are not the impatient-type." I said, turning to Kate, who looked almost as nervous as last time.
Her face betrayed shy-happiness yet was happy that I had not taken advantage of her all those times. She was happy that she can trust me like that.
Jed grinned "I see, okay, follow me."
