Part 11: Kate's Farewell

Year: 1909

Time: 7:58am

Location: Crawford Residence, New York, America

Level: Ground Floor

I stood silent next to Kate on the outside of the house.

"Edna is great, isn't she? I wish I could have had a mother like her. Mine is poorly and is bedridden most of the time. I still value my mum though,"

After she had calmed down, and had accomplished a small amount of pacing, she turned to me and said,

"Alex, I've been thinking about last night...and I only see who you are here and now and that is what I understand. I believe what you say, not just because you have told me all of this and have shown me that you can do it, but also because I trust you," Kate said, putting a hand on my arm.

"Thank you, Kate. I can't easily trust anyone else but you to keep this a secret. No one must know. One more thing is that... I have travelled this far in fear for my life."

"What?"

I explained to her that I am being followed by people who want to cause me harm, and that friends of mine advised me to 'disappear' for a while.

After some more nervous pacing, she asked me:

"So...if you have to run again...you won't leave me alone here will you?"

I thought carefully before answering her question. I didn't want to affect anything in the time stream but I didn't want to leave her, now that I have felt responsible for her welfare.

"Would you be prepared to leave with me?"

Her eyes lit up when she heard me say the last few words.

I didn't expect an answer right away, because this led to a very big decision, so I let her think about it.

After a dozens of minutes to herself, she asked:

"What will I do? Where will I go?"

"Just stay with me. I will take care of everything," I replied, smiling as truthfully as any man could do when he says this.

"What about my family? Or Miss Crawford? Who will take care of her?"

"There are some people in the neighbourhood who can move in our house and take care of her in the same agreement as I have: to take care of Miss Crawford and take care of the house and it's upkeep. As for your family, you'll have to decide..."

"Hmm," came a voice from behind us, "I thought you were talking about something serious last night. Planning to go somewhere, young ones?"

We both turned to Mrs. Crawford.

"I do not understand why someone would try to hurt you, Alexander, but I have known you long enough to know you do not lie. Young lady, if you plan on sticking with this man, then you can be assured that he will not mislead you. As for me, don't worry I can take care of myself," Miss Crawford said, patting my shoulder. "I will let you two talk some more alone."

Kate looked up at me, after hearing a source of credibility to my assurances.

Kate was still confused as to what she would do where and when we would go to.

I then remembered something.

"Kate. I did tell you once that I would show you what a lion, a predator, was. Would you like to travel with me and see?"
