Niall’s POV
I stand on the stage awaiting the answer that I have been looking forward to and dreading in equal measure. I’m waiting, hoping and praying for my name to be called.
“The final contestant who’s made it through is…” Please be me, please be me, I beg silently, “…Tom Richards.” I stand there in shock as I realise that this is where my dream ends. I feel the warm salty tears slowly make their way down my cheeks as the rest of us are asked to leave the stage, a camera approaches me and I’m asked how I am feeling.
“Worst feeling I’ve ever had in my life, standing there and waiting for your name to be called and then it’s not.” I sniff, trying to control my tears. “I…” I try to continue but can’t, “…I’m sorry.” I say as fresh tears begin to cascade down my face, I pull my shirt up to cover my face as I turn away from the camera. I had never imagined how bad it would actually feel. As all of us start to leave a man comes over to us and stops a load of us.
“The judges would like to see these boys back on the stage…Liam Payne…Niall Horan…” My heart skips a beat, did he just say my name? The smile that stretches across my face is unstoppable, I look around me as other names are called, trying to see who the others are. “…Harry Styles…” a boy next to me wearing a hat and a green shirt covers his face with his hands. That must be him I thought. “…Zayn Malik…and Louis Tomlinson.” The guy on the other side of me smiles in disbelief as I hear the stage guy continue to talk to us. “…come this way.” We all follow, patting each other on the shoulder for support, even though we hardly know each other, I still feel like I need to support these strangers since we’re all in the same position.
“This is just some sort of a joke, they just want to make us cry for good TV.” The one I thought was Harry was saying. We walk up the steps and make our way to the front of the stage and there is a group of girls on the other side of the stage.
“Hello. Thank you so much for coming back, I know, judging from some of your faces, that this is really hard. We’ve thought long and hard about it and we’ve thought of each of you as individuals and we just think that you’re too talented to let go of. We think it would be a great idea to have two separate groups.” Nicole Scherzinger says to my utter disbelief, does this mean that we’re still in the competition or would we have to re-audition next year as a group? Would the others even want to? Hadn’t one of the others been on it before? Then Simon says the best thing that I think that I have ever heard.
“We’ve decided to put you both through to the judge’s houses.” Before he has even finished speaking the girls start to scream and cry and hug, but as guys we react differently. I can’t, however, deny the amount of excitement that’s now pumping through my body. Harry has moved slightly away as he kneels down trying to process the information that we have just been given. I jump into the air, higher than ever before and then move over to Harry and pat him on the back, he then stands up and we all gather into a group hug just as Simon start to speak, we quickly move into a line again so that we can listen.
“Guys, guys, girls. This is a life line, you have got to work 10, 12, 14 hours a day every single day and take this opportunity. You’ve got a real shot here guys.” He finishes, I catch him wink as we turn to leave the stage again, this time as a group, I hear clapping as we descend the steps and a camera approaches us.
“The worst feeling of my life to the best.” Harry says as he holds his hand out to indicate how far his feelings have improved since before. The camera then leaves us alone to talk.
“Well I’m Niall.” I say with a small wave and a smile to these new people who I hope will become my friends, I still only know the names of Harry and…is it Louis?
