Mia’s POV

“Guys, this isn’t funny anymore, you know I get freaked out easily. You already made me watch a horror movie the other night, power cuts freak me out.” I call in to the darkness. We had been watching a movie after our dinner and I’d fallen asleep in Niall’s arms but when I woke up it was freezing in the house and there’s no one around and the lights are out. I got up and tried the light switch but nothing happened so now I’m moving through to the kitchen and try the light in there but again nothing happens. I walk slowly around the huge x factor house in the pitch dark and call out for Georgia and the boys who have apparently disappeared. “Please guys, this really isn’t funny, I’m scared.” I call, hearing my voice shake as I speak.

*Bang*

I hear the sound of something getting knocked over and then the sound of a girl’s voice.

“Are you trying to wake the whole house? Be quiet or we won’t get our pictures.” The girl’s voice is harsh but kept quiet and I know that they’re close, probably just in the other room. What are they doing here? Surely they know that they’re breaking and entering? How have they not heard me calling? And where are the others? I move in the opposite direction to where the voices are coming from and move through to a sort of library, again I try the lights but they don’t work, just like the rest of the house it seems. I look around to see that there are books lining the walls with ladders on wheels attached to the walls so that the books on the upper shelves are easier to reach. They don’t look as if they have been used very much although there’s a wooden desk standing in the middle of the room with a book open on it. I walk over and see that the book is a very old copy of ‘To Kill A Mockingbird.’ I remember having to read that book for GCSE English, it’s a good book and one that made me cry, but then again I cry at most books, both happy and sad.

I move past the desk and make my way over to the shelves of books, most are old but as I make my way along the shelves they become more and more modern until they are completely up to date. I trace my fingers along the spines and read the titles, some I recognise others I don’t. It’s clear that there aren’t many readers residing in the x factor house at the current time since when I pull my finger away there’s dust covering it. I then cross the room to the other side, books are also covering this wall. These books are much older dating back to the building that originally stood here before it was modified to become the x factor house, although it’s still the same structure and room layout, just modified. I walk along, my eyes tracing the words on the spines when one in particular catches my eye. ‘The Histories and Mysteries of the Old Mansion House.’ I pull the book out gently from the book case and open it to the first page.

Suddenly the lights come on again and I blink as my eyes adjust to the light.

“See I told you, you just had to find the right switch.” Comes the familiar accent. I run through the library door, and through a few corridors to the living room where they had left me.

“I just can’t believe that it took 5 boys to work that out.” Georgia’s saying.

“Hey, where’s Mi-“ Niall begins but at that moment I run in through the door and fling my arms around his neck, the book still clutched in my hand. “Hey, are you alright? You scared me for a second.” He chuckles as I release him from my grip and go back to my normal height so that I’m no longer on tip-toe.

“I’m fine, but there are some girls in the house, I heard them, they said something about getting pictures or something, but I don’t know where they went.” I say as I remember what I’d heard earlier, the words tumble out of my mouth, blurring together with the speed with which I’m speaking.
