Chapter 31

Mia's POV

Everyone turns to stare at Niall, all equally as shocked as me.

“It’s me, I’m Mia’s boyfriend.” Niall says looking around the group before moving to stand by me.

“When did this happen exactly?” Louis asks looking at us and then over to Georgia.

“Actually it happened at the beginning of the summer, long before we met you guys.” I speak, sounding much calmer than I feel.

“What?” Harry says looking straight at me.

“When were you going to tell us, in fact why didn’t you tell us?” Zayn asks, confusion clear in his voice but there’s no anger there. I open my mouth to speak but much to my relief Niall gets their first.

“We were going to tell you soon it’s just that we…and when I say we I mean I was worried that you guys wouldn’t react well to Mia and I being in a relationship since Mia’s parents are who they are.” He finishes hoping that they will understand. Niall has now laced his hand with mine and is rubbing gentle, calming circles over it with his thumb in a comforting manner.

“What do you mean, Mia’s parents, what?” Harry says clearly not getting it.

“Well since my parents work for the x factor we don’t want you guys or any of the voters to think that Niall cheated because he is dating me even though my parents have nothing to do with the voting and we didn’t want you guys to suffer because of our relationship.” I explain rather quickly. There’s a short silence as everyone continues to stare at Niall and I.

“So you didn’t trust that we would stick by you?” Louis asks sounding hurt. “Did you know about this?” He says turning to look at Georgia who has sat there silently.

“Yes, but Louis you have to understand that it wasn’t my secret to tell, me and Liam tried to make Niall tell you but he wouldn’t, he was just scared.” She babbles, pleading with Louis to understand.

“Wait. You knew?” Zayn says turning to look at Liam who has also stayed quiet.

“Yes but they didn’t tell me because they wanted to, I walked in on them kissing and they knew that lying would have been futile so they just told me but neither of them wanted me to tell you guys even though I told them that you would probably understand.” He defends and I know that it’s time to step in, it isn’t right for Liam or Georgia to get the blame here, this is on me and Niall and us alone.

“Guys, don’t blame them, it’s not their fault that you guys didn’t know, and we’re sorry for not telling you, but you have to understand how hard it’s been not to tell you but at the end of the day we were hiding it for the sake of your careers.” I say and now everyone’s looking at me and Niall again.

“Please guys, try and understand but if you think that it would be better that we hide our relationship from the public then, that’s what we’ll do.” Niall says and I nod as we look at each other for the first time since he said the initial words that set off this discussion.

“No, that wouldn’t be fair to ask you to do that, and if people think that we are cheating then we will have to prove to them that we aren’t cheating somehow and I’m sure that Simon will help.” Harry speaks up causing me to move my gaze from Niall.

“Are you sure?” I ask hardly wanting to believe that they’re taking this so well.

“Yeah, Harry’s right, we can’t ask you to do that, and we’re here for you guys no matter what, we’re a team now and teams stick together.” Louis says, beaming at us and I can’t help the small smile tugging at my lips.
