*Carly's POV*
"Pucker up, Carly! Pucker up!" My mother scolded me in the back seat of our limo as we rode to the award show that, honestly, I think my mom wanted to go to more than me.
I wasn't nominated for anything this time around and I was dying to be back at my house, sitting in slacks, eating the junk that my publicist never allows me to eat. Well, after a ride of reluctant puckering and argument, we arrived at a familiar, humongous building surrounded by a) a red carpet, b) a few hundred screaming fans, c) paparazzi and TV cameras along with their hosts d) celebrities.
Celebrities. The people that are supposed to be picture perfect at every moment. Well, I guess this was the wrong night to prove that fact wrong, everyone did look perfect.
The door to the left of me cracked open and sunlight, redish/pink sunlight from a sunset burst in. My eyes squinted at the sight but mother hussled me out of the car as the driver closed the door behind me.
"Mom," I said to her, "I am telling you. I don't feel good, why did I have to come? Stars miss these things all the time! My stomach feels like it's going to kill the rest of my body if I don't do something about the pain."
"Carly. Do not be ridiculous. You are here now. You will be fine. Now, put on a big smile for the cameras and show off your dress. We're getting half a million for this one tonight." My mother smiles. "I know darling, I know. You'll be back at home soon." She tells me, becoming more soft, more concerned, more like the mother I know her to be.
"Okay." I say and frown slightly before my mother picks my head up and makes me smile.
I walk down the red carpet, stopping at two or three interviewers on the way, but not payin much attention, hopefully you can't tell.
When I reach the end - finally - of the carpet I meet up with my mom once again. She was interviewed more than I was, which makes her happy of course.
"I-I think I'm gonna go and get some air, I'll be right back. You can go find your seat." I tell her and motion toward the woody-type area behind me.
"Be careful darling! Not too long now! And don't ruin your dress!" She tells me and I roll your eyes, but obey.
I walk up past the carpet and the cameras into the clearing. It's a mix of trees, bushes, overgrown grass. I walk through it and close my eyes, enjoying the peace and quiet for as long as it will last. I hear a branch snap behind me and I whip my head around to find a boy, about my age, tall, slightly handsome, no camera in hand thank god.
"Hey." He nods his head at me and checks me out. My dress is tight but not revealing, yet I still feel uncomfortable.
"Uh, hi. Who are you?" I ask him.
"I'm Matt. I know who you are.." He steps towards me. Slowly. Slowly. Slowly. Until he's less than a foot away.
From the look in his eye I can tell he's trouble. Why did I come out here? Of course someone would follow me! Is there anyone around who can see what's happening? I begin to worry about what he might want to do with me and he can see the worry on my face.
"Don't worry baby. It's all good. Your with Matt now." He steps toward me one last time and now his face is less than an inch from mine. My breath mixes with his and I step back just as his hands rest on my waist.
"Stop." I tell him but he continues to walk to me so I keep walking back. The thought of the tree I'll run into at some point that will block my path giving me nowhere to go scares me, when all of a sudden I find it. I've reached a tree and my back is pressed into it, Matt directly in front of me and extremely close. He leans his head into me and begins to kiss me as I try to push him off.
"Get off of me!" I say to him, trying to escape but I see no way out of this.
There's another crackling of sticks behind you that startles even Matt as he picks his lips off mine. I catch your breath before turning to see who's there.
Standing there is your long-time crush, Justin Bieber.
"Justin!" I say to him but he ignores me, his eyes full of fire.
"Don't. Touch. Her." He says to Matt but Matt shrugs off his warning.
"What are you gonna do to me, mate?" Matt asks him and I notice his Aussie accent for the first time. It's actually kinda cute..no. It's not cute. Did I forget what he just did to me?
"I said, don't touch her." Justin's eyes flicker fire again and Matt flinches slightly but tries to hide it.
"Why don't you just back off?" Matt asks.
"Why don't you!" Justin says and approaches Matt, pushing his wrists into Matt's shoulders. Matt lets out a yelp of pain. Justin gives him a good punch to the gut and Matt falls to the floor in pain.
"Don't. Touch. Her." Justin says and Matt gets up and runs off, nodding his head as he goes.
Justin lets out an exhausted breath.
"Thank you. Thank you so much! Where did you come from?" I ask him.
"Looks like I'm not the only one trying to get a break from the cameras." He tells me with a smile. Ooh. I almost melt. His smile... I look into his warm, Carmel eyes and something makes me want to stand there forever.
"Like what you see?" Justin teases as he notices me staring.
"Sorry." I shake my head and look down.
"Don't apologize. It's cute." Is he flirting with you?! I smile and giggle at him.
"How come I've never really met you? Your name is Carly, right?" He asks.
"Yeah." I tell him. He knows your name?!?! "I don't know. Different businesses, I guess. I've seen you around. And I've been to your concerts." I say the last line quietly.
"What?" He asks, a smile on his face. I could tell from the way he looked at me the first time he'd seen me that he liked the dress I was wearing. Ooh..he's so attractive.
"You heard what I said!" I giggle at him again and punch him playfully in the shoulder.
"Ow!" He jokes and holds his shoulder, pretending to be hurt.
As you walk away from the clearing of trees and keep talking with Justin, cameras begin to flash.
"Oh, crap." Justin mutters. "Here." He puts his body in front of mine to block it as he walks the other way, toward the back entrance of the building.
"That's not good..." I say, my voice trailing off as I think of what my mom will say. I told her I was going to catch a breath and I'd only be gone for a few minutes..it's been at least twenty minutes, she's probably frantically searching for me, and now I'm going to enter in the arms of Justin Bieber and that's all the papers will say tomorrow.
Justin, seeing my stressed out face, tries to calm me down.
"It'll be fine. We can explain it to everyone who actually knows real things. The paps want anything they can get. If I had walked by you at any point tonight they would've said we were dating. Sshh, it'll be okay." He soothes and wraps his arms around my bosy, pulling my head into his chest.
I let out a few deep breaths and calm myself down.
"Thank you." I look up at him, my eyes looking like a child. Full of happiness and wonder...as if everything I saw was something new, something special.
He chuckles. "No problem." He reaches for my hand, and, without thinking twice I take it, your fingers tangling perfectly within his.
