     It was a bright day, with Lapis and Peridot just watching TV in the barn. It was showing some documentary about a creature that mankind had apparently been trying to find for a long time. It was rumored to have killed many, and many had gone missing because of this creature.
"Hey Lapis?" Peridot murmured, her head resting on Lapis's lap.
"Hmm?" Lapis answered, running her hand through Peridot's triangular hair.
"Do you want to go find this "Nessie" creature?" Peridot asked. "If we do, I'm sure that Steven would be so happy and proud of us! And anyways, you have water powers!" Lapis smirked at Peridot, finding her wording adorable.
"Yeah, of course," Lapis agreed, leaning back to let Peridot sit up.
"Alright! I'll show those other Crystal Clods that I, Peridot, am truly the most important!" Peridot yelled, punching the air as she got up.
"Aren't you one of those "Crystal Clods" though?" Lapis brought up, making Peridot's cheek turn a dark green.
"Be quiet!"

The night made the lake peaceful, calming. The slight breeze made small ripples form on the surface of the lake, and made the trees' leaves rustle. Lapis was holding Peridot's hand, a dark blue blush on her cheeks, matching Peridot's green.
"We're here." Peridot's nasally voice cut through Lapis's train of thought, and she let go of her hand. The two had flown to Scotland, to the lake where Nessie was said to be. They had started walking when they were close, since Peridot didn't want to get too comfortable and fall asleep on Lapis's back. Lapis opened her mouth to reply.

     A shrill shriek interrupted Lapis's next comment, and a large wave of water splashed on the two once-Homeworld gems. Looking up, the two gems saw what they were looking for, Nessie, but the two were sure that it was no normal creature, since it had a gem on it's eye. It was slick green, with large jagged blue spikes on it's back. Lapis immediately pushed Peridot behind her and yelled, "Get the gems!"

     Peridot ran for her life to the nearest warp, and called for the gems.
     "Crystal gems!" Peridot shrieked, looking for them. Garnet, Pearl, Amethyst and Steven were holding some kind of cards, with different shapes, colors, and numbers on them. Garnet was the first to stand.
     "What is it, Peridot?" Garnet asked, adjusting her triangular lenses.
     "We- Lapis and I- found a corrupted gem!" Peridot wheezed, making Pearl and Amethyst jump.

     When the gems managed to arrive at where Lapis and the monster was, it was a dire sight. Lapis was barely holding up, scratches all over her, and she was probably the strongest of the gems, although she was alone for an extended period of time. Peridot ran over to Lapis, but she spotted Lapis falling down in exhaustion. Before she could reach her, Nessie shrieked and dived to shatter Lapis's gem.

     Everything was in slow motion. Lapis looked up, and saw Peridot diving toward her, screaming, but Lapis couldn't hear it over the panic in her head. She tried to turn around so her gem wasn't facing Nessie but there wasn't enough time. Suddenly, a large sound stopped all thoughts in Lapis's head.
     "Crack!" Looking up, Lapis saw a horrible sight. Peridot's gem was cracked, horribly.

     "B-before I go insane," Peridot murmured in Lapis's shaking arms, "I need you tell you." Lapis looked down at Peridot's face, unable to see her clearly through the tears.
     "W-what is it?" Lapis stammered, clutching Peridot a little tighter as a tear fell down. She could hear fighting going on behind her, but Lapis couldn't care less.
     "Lazuli," Peridot smiled lazily, as if she had just woken up, but she hadn't woken up, she hadn't woken up at all. If only she was safe, just waking up, with messy hair, drool on her face from sleeping. If only she was smiling lazily because she was tired from the feeling of sun on her skin, not the crack in her gem. If only the liquid on her face was drool from snoring, and not the juices coming from Peridot's gem. If only Peridot wasn't about to die in Lapis's arms, her last words about to be spoken. If only Peridot and Lapis were safe at the barn.
      "You're beautiful, Lazuli, n-never change that." Peridot closed her eyes, and Lapis felt Garnet holding her back from screaming her lungs out at the sight of Peridot.
