~~~~~~~~~~~~Lapis trembled as she sat on her bed, the door to her room locked, the knife she held in her hand almost grazing her skin. Thoughts flowed through her head, faster than any force imaginable, as she sat there, tears almost forming. You deserve it. You're horrible. Even your adoptive mother hates you. Your "sister" Jasper knows you're horrible. Eventually even Peridot will discover how bad you are. You're a monster that-
"Lazuli!" Peridot's nasally voice cut through, as she knocked on the door. Peridot was home. She was earlier, since there was so much snow outside. Lapis pursed her lips, and mentally apologized to her roommate.------
Peridot had arrived home, feeling a little sick, but her roommate Lapis Lazuli was nowhere to be seen. This worried Peridot, since she knew that Lapis was struggling with mental disorders. Walking around the house, she looked for any sign of the blue haired girl. She was trying every door, when she realized that Lapis's door was closed. As she walked up to it though, she heard sniffling. Pounding on the door at the thought of the swimmer, Peridot yelled, "Lazuli!" There was no answer, except that the sobs that been slightly leaking through the door got quieter. With tears threatening to fall, Peridot got out her spare key in case this ever happened, and opened the door.
-------
Lapis was sitting on her bed with her back to the door, but turned around the second she heard the door open. She whipped around, staring at Peridot, still wearing her clothes from work. The knife was being clutched in her hand tightly when Peridot was knocking on the door, but now the knife fell down and made a thump as it hit the carpet floor. Peridot, worried sick, rushed up to Lapis, holding her hand and sitting on the bed.
"What's wrong?" Peridot asked, whispering to not scare Lapis. Lapis held back a sob.
"Why didn't you just let me do it," she muttered, "I'm a monster, I deserved it." At the mention of the word monster, Peridot gasped, and used both of her hands to grab Lapis's arm.
"Hey, Lazuli, look at me." Lapis looked up at Peridot with her large blue eyes, and Peridot vowed to herself she would never let Lapis feel this way again. "So what if you accidentally burned Jasper? You were cruel to Steven at first? Lapis, you're like.. an injured animal. Or no.. a river! People have hurt you, and you've accidentally done some bad things, but that's okay! You're recovering, you're becoming cleaner. I want to help you, La-" Peridot paused, looking at her hand. "Lapis."Lapis looked into Peridot's green eyes, and she could practically see the stars in her eyes. She looked away, pulling her arm away, and held her knees against her chest. Seeing this, Peridot crawled up to Lapis, gently pulled away her arms, and hugged her. Lapis was surprised, but then hugged back, ghosts of sobs still there. When Peridot pulled away, her face was still close to Lapis. The two were looking into each other's eyes, entranced. Lapis leaned her head forward, their foreheads now touching.
The two took everything in, from their breaths rolling over each other's faces, to the feeling of Lapis holding Peridot's hand. Suddenly a feeling came up, tickling Peridot's nose.
"L-Lapis," Peridot whispered, pulling away.
"Is something wrong?" Lapis asked, fear rushing into her at the thought of Peridot leaving her, like everyone else had.
"Ah-" Peridot sneezed. Because of how violently Peridot sneezed and how close she was to the edge of the bed, Peridot accidentally fell off the bed, her back slamming on the carpet. Laughing, Lapis stood up. Out of all the things she expected to do, laughing wasn't expected. Lapis held out a hand to Peridot, smiling.
"Come on, you dork."
