I arrive to Interscope where I immediately spot Paul. I'm so freaking nervous about this meeting that you wouldn't believe it! There's gonna be people at that table who's been there for years and I'm gonna look so stupid if I make a mistake. I've been reading through the files that Paul sent me so I at least know what we're gonna discuss at the meeting.
"Jen, good to see you." Paul says and we begin to walk down the long hallway.
"Good to see you too." I say.
"Jimmy is very excited to meet you." Paul tells me. "He's very satisfied with the work you've done on Shady Records."
"That's good to hear." I say relieved. At least I'm on a good start here.
"Would you really think otherwise?" Paul chuckles and we now stop in front of one of the many doors on this hallway.
"You never know." I shrug smiling and Paul knocks on the door before he opens it. I see Jimmy sitting at his desk and he looks at me smiling.
"Jenny." He says. "Come in." I walk into the office and Paul doesn't follow me. I guess it's only going to be me and Jimmy then. "Sit down." I sit down on the empty chair across from him.
"It's nice to finally meet you." I say and sticks my hand out to him and he shakes it.
"You too." He says. "I've heard great things about you."
"I'm flattered." I say.
"I sense that you and Marshall have worked things out." He says taking me by surprise. How does he know about the feud we had?
"Yes." I confirm. "We just got off on a bad start."
"You don't say." He lets out a little laugh. "But you were too good to fire." Say what?
"Excuse me?"
"Oh it's nothing." He says. "Marshall just wanted you fired or moved department when you just started but I wouldn't do that. Luckily you worked things out." I can't believe that he tried to get me fired or moved. I knew that he despised me but I was doing my work.
"Yes." I just put on a fake smile.
"So.. Jenny." He says. "Are you happy with working at Shady Records?"
"Very much."
"Good." Jimmy says. "Your work has been pretty impressive and you must have impressed Marshall since he promoted you."
"I guess." I just say. Right now all I can think about is how he tried to get me fired. He was not even going to give me a chance, no he just wanted to fire me. I moved to Detroit for that job and if it was up to him then he would've been cruel enough to fire me. It irritates me that he was that petty and short sighted, it's a site of his that I really don't like. I know it's in the past and I'm gonna let it be like that but I'm curious of when he made that call, like.. did he know about Tyler?
"It's your first staff meeting today and I actually just want you to sit back and take notes. I'm gonna make some small suggestions about accountants for some of the suggestions and plans, but that's just things that you have to go home and look through to make a budget. Your work will actually mostly be after the meeting because you have to make the budgets for the upcoming projects." Jimmy informs me which is so relieving.
"Okay." I say. "Sounds good."
"Do you have any questions?" He asks.
"I don't think so." I say politely.
"Okay." He nods. "Marshall have told you that you should sit down next to him, right?"
"No." I say. He apparently forgot..
