Chapter 27:

Something damp, something wet...

At last I realised where I was, I opened my eyes to find myself surrounded by a pool of water, I wondered whether I had somehow sleep walked to the river but this was no river, I could feel the ground beneath me under the midst of dirty cold water. I searched the area for any signs of familiar faces but all that was left were the green tents crowding around me, nothing else...

Where was everybody? I slumped through the bath of water that had taken over the area, hoping to find someone soon.

"Is someone here!" I shouted, keeping fingers crossed for a possible reply.

"Anyone?"

No answer... I refused to believe that they would leave me all alone in the flood but the more I tried to find another face, the more I began to believe it. They wouldn't have ditched me though, especially not Zayn but where were they? I searched some more and more and more but nothing...

I pinched myself, wanting this to be a bad dream but every time I opened my eyes, I saw the same scenario. This was all because of Selena and I was sure she was plotting something against me. Yesterday she had avoided me throughout the day, only spoke if she wanted to pass a snide remark on me and was behaving oddly strange, clinging onto Zayn in every possible opportunity she got, to portray something but I had still not figured out what she was trying to do. I did wonder though if she was the unknown caller. Knowing her, she would do such a thing but my heart was telling me otherwise.

Zayn's car! I spotted the black Bentley sitting further outside the campsite area and ran to it as fast as possible, only to find it empty. At least the car door was open so I got in to take myself away from this wreck of a mess, creating more mess in the process...

"Shit!" I cursed as the door banged close, trapping me inside the car. Despite knowing very well that my constant banging won't open the door, I still did it anyway, trying to try. There was a figure lying on the ground, I squinted my eyes to get a clearer picture, then I saw the silver lining of my bracelet, it was Zayn! The water was incredibly high and close to cover him completely. I hammered and smacked the car door harder, desperate to get out now more than ever, I couldn't leave him out there like that!

"Please someone help!" I frantically said, knowing too well no one was listening.

"Zayn get up! Get up!"

The water was rising, there was no choice, my heart was pounding hard and I couldn't think straight, I had to get out now even if it meant that the black Bentley had to be destroyed. The windscreen smashed after multiple attempts of bombarding with my shoes. I clambered out not caring for any scrapes or cuts because he needed my attention, I had to save him. I felt his heartbeat which was shockingly weak, his head rested on my lap and I patted his cheeks, trying to get him out of this deep sleep, wanting his eyes open but Zayn just kept still.

"Zayn!" I cried, clinging onto him.

"What are you doing?"

I look up to see Rebecca standing above us, her face woven with slight shock. I didn't let Zayn go, I couldn't let myself go.

"He's not responding." I barely spoke with ease.

"He'll be alright Perrie. Let's go -

Rebecca grabbed my necklace, pulling my neck along whilst doing so.

"What are you doing with this?"

"It's mine."

"No it's not! Don't lie to me, I know very well whom it belongs to."

"Rebecca!" I yell when she tries to rip it off me.

"You're a liar!"

"I am not lying!"

Rebecca randomly starts laughing, tears stroll down her face too.

"You are wasting your time with him."

I didn't know what to say, my voice was lost.

"You know, I was just like you. I loved him too. Still do..."

Her words hit me harsh, the fact that she knew wasn't the problem but she still was not over him was difficult to digest and acknowledge. She loved him still... How was I supposed to share him...

"She will never let you be with him Perrie. You wouldn't have got a chance if she let Zayn choose for himself."

"I don't care about Tricia."

"But Zayn does."

"Zayn loves me."

"He loved me too but he loves her the most."

"I know he does but that's not an issue."

There was a pause, both of us were thinking deep, all her sudden burst of words had already evaporated from my body but one thing lingered on. Rebecca was the unknown caller...

"It was you who sent the messages wasn't it?"

"Messages?"

It wasn't her? If not her then who else?

"You won't tell anyone?"

"It won't make a difference. You two will not last..."

I tightened my grip around Zayn, shutting off all her negativity in that little embrace with the person I loved and the person whom I know loved me back no matter what she or anyone had to say about that.

"Let's go." Rebecca said and the two of us supported Zayn's body through the water till we reached the bus.
