Chapter 35:
"Smack it!", an irritated Selena shouted at me when I missed the tennis ball 5 times in a row now.
"I'm trying! But it keeps coming at my face instead of the racquet!" I yelled back.
"You don't move away, you HIT it then!", she yelled again.
"Alright alright! Let's try once more."
Selena swung the racquet and aimed the ball towards me, this time I focused hard and hit the ball.
"Yay! I did it!"
"Higher Perrie! You hit the net! That's bad!"
"Urg! I hate this!"
"I thought you were a pro at this." Zayn commented at my failure and laughed loudly with Alisha joining in. I hated her laughter, that irritating chuckle of hers which was normally fake but if the joke was on me, there was no stopping her from laughing louder than anyone else.
"It's too sunny okay. I can't see properly."
"Your a good liar." Alisha said.
"She's a terrible liar." Zayn said.
"Hello! We were practising. Stop distracting her!" Selena shouted.
Selena flung the ball at me, this time I was determined to not let myself down and show them, mainly Alisha, that I can do it too. Just imagine it's a big spider and hit it as far away as possible, I told myself but no luck, the ball slid past me as my racquet punched the air instead. Laughter erupted behind me again.
"Do it again!"
"Are you sure Perrie. I don't think -
"One more time!"
Selena sighed and shot the ball once more. I replaced the spider with Alisha, maybe it would work. I used all my force and lunged the racquet really hard. It did the trick! That was easy, if that's all I had to do then maybe I did have a chance. I did a victory dance and stuck my tongue out at Zayn.
"Now don't get so big headed. You have to continue the momentum." Zayn reminded me.
"Clearly someone doesn't know the rules. Kids nowadays huh." Alisha snickered.
"If I am not wrong, you are only two years older right?"
"Makes a whole lot of difference..." Zayn added. This just lit the fuel to the fire flaring in my head. How could he say that, in front of her that too!
"And how is that...?"
"Well first of all, I do have more experience than you, bigger ambitions, big everything actually..." Alisha continued.
"Hmm... Yeah I can see what you mean by that."
"What do you mean!"
"I meant -
"You guys! I am trying to teach here!" Selena screamed, drawing my attention back to the game.
"Thank You!" Zayn said, looking relieved.
...........................................................................
It was night but I was still adamant to keep practising and beat her. Everything was okay except for the serve, I couldn't serve well so I tried to expert that skill, frequently failing and Selena was too busy inside which meant I had no guidance. I had no intention to talk to Zayn for a while, after his last crude comment. I tossed the ball and hit it with all the energy I could manage and this time, the ball did travel further, along with my racquet... Someone chuckled from the top balcony, it was Zayn. I averted my gaze and continued to practise.
