Chapter 42:
Third Person's POV:
The rain had vanished and the sky had converted into a silent, dark night instead, not a single star was dotted on the coal black sky, the ground below shone however, with artificial lights from the Victorian era style lamp posts, illuminating the car with sharp gold glow. Inside that car was Zayn, half serious, half doubtful about the girl's words. He even gave escaping with her a thought but that idea given by the girl faded away as soon as it came. All he knew was that he did not want to lose her, at the same time, he did not want to take a step that may make him fall and crumble, roping her as well.
Perrie on the contrary was keen on running away, she wanted to give it a try, she knew she would always remain happy in his trust but she couldn't force him either. Zayn stared at her, wondering when she was going to stop looking at the windshield, she was also wondering, wondering and hoping he would move the scenery outside the windshield forward and drive away to their future, somewhere with just the two of them.
The front door opened, revealing Debbie who already knew who her daughter had been with but it still hurt her to see Perrie dependant and fixated on someone other than her, someone that didn't even have the courage to fight for her. Debbie knew though, she knew they loved each other but she didn't want Perrie with Zayn, he had failed to prove himself and humiliated her twice now. It was time for Tricia and her son to repent even if it meant Perrie suffered along the way, to Debbie, Perrie would suffer more with Zayn than without.
Selena glanced through the window at her sister's failed attempt. Part of her felt deeply and hurt tremendously for Perrie because she knew Zayn was all she relied on while the other part thought it was for the best.
Debbie eventually went outside to call Perrie in after waiting sometime. Perrie didn't once look at her though, Debbie waited but she remained still. Only when Zayn went around to her side did she avert her gaze from the windshield. He took her hand and she followed his guide inside the house to her room, it was as if it was his house not hers. Debbie let him go, guilt over taking her after seeing their bond. Perrie finally hit reality after Selena removed her hands from Zayn and closed the bedroom door.
..............................................................
The next day Perrie baked cakes whist her mum and sister did the packing for her since she wasn't interested, they tried engaging her in the activity by showing her new clothes and photos of her hostel but all Perrie did was give a cold stare at every new thing. As Monday arrived, Debbie, Perrie and Selena went to Hilton college first to drop Selena off and then drive to Perrie's hostel. Before Selena stepped out, Perrie was already outside the college and into the building of her old college, walking straight to her English class. She didn't even notice Jade on the side trying to call her or Rebecca in front of her, shouting at her for wearing the wrong uniform. Perrie missed everyone and just entered her class, hoping to meet him for the final time.
Zayn got up and smiled slightly at her sight, knowing she would come early today like the other days and refused to believe she was really leaving him. The only give away was her new uniform and her eyes which were brimming with tears. Perrie lent her hand forward and opened her palm out to him, offering the broken chain back to him where it belonged. Instead of taking it, Zayn broke free the ring from the chain and attached it to her already wounded finger. She brought her other hand forward with the baked cake, wanting it to be perfect this time round.
Zayn acted out the same scene he had when she first got him a cake, both started laughing in silent at the distant memories. Then the tears erupted from both of their eyes when they jumped back to reality.
When she stepped out the class, Jade stood in her way before jumping in for a hug, no words were needed for them to say their goodbyes either.
Perrie forced herself back inside the car and caught Zayn's reflection on the window. Unlike last time, this time, Perrie found out it was coming from the window upstairs. She casted a look at him to wave goodbye but he was gone..............................................................
The drive was long and the conversations were dead since Perrie refused to start any. She forced her mum to halt the car when a familiar country house passed by in a blur. She almost ran out the car to Bertha who was sitting in the same spot she was before. A little shock ran through after another pair of arms hugged Bertha along with her at the same time. Finding out that Zayn had followed them till here both broke and touched her heart. The hug was short but within those short seconds, floods of their time together with Bertha and in the house dived in. Even Bertha herself couldn't help but cry on their behalf.
For the last time, Perrie entered the car with an album given by Bertha of their time together and took the memories with her but she was still not ready to move on. As the car started, Zayn couldn't help but run to the car window. He placed a rose on her hands and looked at her one last time before she went for good. Debbie hid the tears and carried on the journey regardless. Zayn moved with the car until he couldn't keep up and Perrie tried to catch hold of him. Their tears flowed with force when the distance between them lengthened rapidly.
