Chapter 41:
It had been exactly 2 days since that night. 2 more days remained for the holiday to end, just two more days left. Then I'll get to see him again.
I was hurt when Zayn didn't pick me, a part of me was still crying but I know very well, maybe even more than Zayn to why he couldn't pick one. I know he loved me. I kept repeating those words each day to stop myself from crying, it was the only thing I could hold onto to right now. Just 2 days to go...
"Perrie."
I jerked my head up at Selena, she was the only one I talked to in the last few days, Jonnie and mum hadn't even uttered a word to me since we got back. Both of them seemed to believe Zayn had actually abandoned me and were angry that I still cried because of him. They didn't know that I cried not because but for him.
"Debbie's calling you..." Selena said, her voice seemed a bit drained and she looked at me with pity eyes. Not her too! I went downstairs, mum was sorting documents with my name on them, school bag, pencil, shoes, skirt, almost everything to do with college was scattered all over the tables.
"Is this all for the new term?" I asked, trying to build some form of conversation.
"You are still fixed on Zayn."
"But I was talking about college...?"
"Well you are not going college. Not that college anyway."
"What do mean not that college?"
"Is it not obvious. I am sending you to the best hostel for girls only. You'll be very happy and comfortable there. I am sure."
"You can't!" I cried. I had been afraid of something like this but I had trusted her. She moved to my side, lending a tissue out. Only if it were that easy to wipe the emotions.
"Perrie. I know you loved him. You probably still do. I even let you be with him despite knowing he was a teacher and you his student."
"I love him mum. Don't do this please."
"I know you do. If he cared for you, if he didn't want to lose you, he would have picked you Perrie."
"He didn't pick her either."
"Look at you Perrie. So desperate for him. You have always kept him at the top. Even above me and look what he did to you."
The tissue had no use, the tears didn't dry up, more came along the way. Even though I know Zayn loved me, my mum wasn't just assuming things. She was right, I was desperate. I didn't want to lose him.
"But she's not even finished her first year yet!" Selena exclaimed. I didn't realise she was standing in the staircase for that long.
"It's too late to change it now. I've paid for everything already."
"You'll love it there. I've seen some pictures, it looks like a very posh place. Expensive but worth it." she added, it was obvious she was putting on an act. I noticed she was also crying.
There was no point arguing further, she had her mind set.
....................................................................
It was pouring outside, the crash of the rain drops gave me company and I tried to sleep but just like the non stop shower outside, my eyes refused to back down. 2 days had turned into 2 years... Oh my God! I was never going to see him again! I couldn't let that happen no matter what. I looked at Selena, she was fast asleep. Everybody was. No one would notice me gone. I made my decision. I decided to go to Zayn's house, even if it meant I had to walk in the rain at night, I couldn't give up.
The roads and streets were deserted, it was only me with my umbrella walking without once stopping or blinking. At least I didn't feel like I had blinked in a long time, afraid the next blink might darken my next view. The key was under the mat like last time so I entered inside, walking straight to his room and sat in the bed next to him. Zayn was sleeping, I was relieved that he wasn't as bothered as me, of course he wasn't. He probably didn't take my mum seriously.
I counted the tick tocks of the clock but kept my eyes fixed on him. Exactly 5400 seconds had passed since my arrival. I continued to count but Zayn started to stir and I lost my record. Zayn gently opened his eyes and shut them straight after and after couple more seconds, they flew open instantly.
"Perrie?", an astonished Zayn questioned. I waited for him to get up.
"What are you doing here so late?"
"Couldn't sleep..."
"Who dropped you?"
"I came by myself."
"Weren't you scared."
"I am scared."
"You can't sleep, you are scared. What's wrong Perrie?"
"You are acting as if nothing happened."
"A lot of things happened but it didn't amount to anything."
"You are right. We love each other. That's the only thing that matters."
"They can't see that."
"I don't care about anyone else Zayn. We don't have to care."
"How is that possible?"
"You love me don't you?"
"You know I do."
"Well then, the answer is straight forward."
"I don't see the straight line."
"We could elope together."
I desperately scanned his eyes for the answer I was searching for.
"That will never work out."
"It worked for Bertha. She had the same problem Zayn but she found a way. They found a way."
"Those times were different."
"Love has no time. It's always there."
"You talk as if you're the older one in this relationship."
"I know what's right and wrong."
"Is that why you fell in love with your teacher?"
"Zayn!", tears emerged in the surface of my eyes. "Shh..." Zayn hummed and leaned forward to wipe the tears off.
"Do you really believe running away will solve the problem?"
I nodded but I knew he was right.
"There will be lots of stones on our pathway, we will end up tripping in one of them."
"But if we fall, we fall together."
"But I'd rather you stay in one piece. We know how clumsy you are."
"So it's all my fault?"
"It's your bad luck."
"Bad luck that I fell in love with you? Zayn, that's the best thing that's happened to me!"
"Does anybody else know you are here?"
"No. I told you I don't care about anyone else."
"Lets get you home."
"Zayn -
"Perrie, your mum must be worried."
"Zayn -
"We'll talk in college -
"You'll never see me again!"
...
"My mum's sending me to hostel."
