Chapter 34:
After hours of persuasion, my mum had finally agreed to come to the countryside with us, braving the fact that Tricia would also be there. It was late afternoon and we had arrived to the hotel which was actually multiple manor houses together adorned with bushes of ivy all around and golden lanterns tangled in them, making the whole place glimmer in gold and green.
"I am sorry but all rooms are booked.", the receptionist informed with a forced smile on her face.
I rang Zayn to clarify things, he said he would be here by the time we had reached. "Hello?"
"Who's this?", a female voice asked through his phone. Weird...
"It's Perrie. Erm who's this?"
"Zayn's close friend."
"Is he there?"
"Yes..."
"Could you pass the phone to him. Please."
The phone hanged up. What the hell! Who was this person and what was she doing with his phone anyway, how dare she hang up on me! I dialled Zayn's number again, praying this time he picked it up.
"Where are you guys?" Zayn asked.
"Thank God! Who was that?"
"Oh she is a good friend. Are you guys here yet?"
"Yeah but the receptionist said there is no room available."
"Don't worry, I'm coming."
Soon enough, Zayn walked in with a tennis racquet in one hand, dressed in half zip top and shorts, looking damn hot.
"The 4 rooms I had booked for them." he told the receptionist that began inspecting me with her eyes, suddenly.
"Sure Mr Malik. Anything else?"
"No that's all. Thanks Liza."
"There is no way I'm letting you pay.", mum protested.
"It's nothing big. You came is enough for me."
"No mum's right. You are not paying for anything." I said.
"My dad owns this place. Besides it doesn't matter."
"I don't care if you built this place. I am paying and that's final."
"Fine meet me outside after you're done with the paying and unpacking." Zayn told us before running back outside.
............................................................
"You've got some tough competition!" Selena whispered after we spotted a gorgeous brunette chatting and laughing with Zayn whilst playing a game of tennis. I don't think I ever felt this envious before.
"Who even plays tennis this late though?" Jonnie commented.
"Finally you guys are here!" Zayn shouted and abandoned the game to join us. I was pulled into the warmest hug and a kiss on the cheek from him.
"Who are they Zayn?", the brunette asked, glaring at me with her cute small eyes. It was her on the phone.
"This is Perrie, Selena and Jonnie. Very good friends of mines. And this is Alisha. I'm sure you remember her Jonnie."
"Oh yeah..."
"Hi, you're really -
"Dinners ready right?" Alisha cut me off for the second time today. Bloody hell she was rude!
"Er yeah. Let's go in then."
I took my seat next to Zayn on the table as we waited for the dish to arrive. Tricia entered the room and froze for a bit after seeing mum on the table as well. I wanted this grudge or whatever they had to vanish as soon as possible because I think that is the main root to the problem she has with me and also, I knew my mum wanted her back as a friend.
"This is my mum Debbie."
"Of course she is." Tricia snapped back, taking the furthest seat away from mum.
"Could you please move to the next chair." Alisha asked, ordered more like.
"Why don't you sit here." Zayn told her, motioning to the other free seat next to him.
"Sure..." she replied with pierced teeth.
I coughed on my soup when his hands scraped my skirt up few inches and started to gently move his hands up and down my thighs under the table. Slowly, I slid my hand under the table to remove his touch but his other hand got hold of my hand and held them tightly, pulling me sideways in his direction. I realised this was too soft and delicate to be his hand and I was pretty sure Zayn wore no fake nails. I was forced to lean further sideways to my right when she put my hands on her legs. How gross! I snatched my hand back as soon as she released it and looked at her in shock. What was she thinking! Alisha looked at Zayn, disappointment flashing across her face. Oh...
"I am so happy you all made it. You have to make me some of your cakes again Debbie, I just can't get over them!" Zayn said.
"So Alisha, how is your modelling going? Your father, being one of the top designers today, must be proud." Tricia said, breaking the conversation.
"Oh wow! You are a model. I want to be one too!" Selena chimed.
"You should try talking to Alisha's dad. He is a very nice man." Tricia said. How strange, she was actually being nice to my family for once.
"Really? That would be amazing!" Selena beamed.
"How very different are you sisters..." Tricia mumbled.
"Perrie dear! You are also here. How wonderful!" Bertha's sweet voice filled the room.
"There used to be a time when she would hug me first. Guess I'm getting old..." Zayn joked. Bertha laughed and hugged him after me.
"Mum's always had a bad taste in everything." Tricia taunted.
"Maybe that's why I love you too."
Waliyah was the only one to laugh out loud whereas everybody else, apart from Tricia and Alisha, sniggered silently.
............................................................
"I wanted to show you this.", Bertha said, handing me one of her photo albums. Although I wanted to look at them, my entire attention was pinned on them two playing tennis outside. We were sitting in the balcony upstairs but there was a perfect view of the tennis court, loud shouts of laughter could be heard which was very annoying since most of them were of her.
"Go watch the game since you seem to be hooked on that." Bertha said.
"No I was just..."
"Go, I'll show you this some other time."
"I promise I'll look at it next time." I said and ran downstairs to the courtyard, settled myself on the chairs nearby and observed them, making sure Alisha got no chance to make a move but she got her chance on me first.
"Ouch!" I screamed when the tennis ball hit me hard.
"Oh my God! Are you okay Perrie?" Zayn rushed to my side, cradling my head against his chest and smoothing the back of my head where she had hit me with. I swear she did it on purpose.
"I am so sorry!" Alisha apologised but she wasn't fooling me.
"I'm fine Zayn."
"Are you sure?"
I nodded.
"Have you ever played tennis Perrie?" she asked.
"Nice joke. Perrie is not the sporty type." Zayn smirked along with her.
"Of course Perrie knows! I bet she can beat both of you." Selena defended me and at the same time created a challenge that was probably not going to end well in our favour since I had never played tennis.
"Let's play a game then and see who wins?" Alisha challenged.
"Game on." I accepted her challenge.
