Chapter 43:
"Don't stand there like a statue, come inside.", my mum implored. I didn't want to go in the room, my new room. I could see the window right in front of me, the walls were washed with dull grey paint and the furnitures were plain brown, brown bed, brown cupboard, brown desk, brown everything. My mum paid a "fortune" for this? I carried on standing outside the open door with my album holding my precious memories, in my hands.
"Perrie. Come in now.", her voice was starting to get louder. I didn't respond. All I could do was stand there. Maybe she'll feel sorry for me and take me back home to him. Maybe...
"If you don't come in now, I will drag you in Perrie."
I didn't move. She sighed heavily and strode across the room towards me before taking the side of my arm and literally dragged me in despite my refusals and pleading. I held the door frame tightly but it was pointless, she was stronger than me and I ended up being dumped in the bed.
"I am sorry..." she said.
"Mum please don't leave me here."
"You will stay happy here. A chance to move on Perrie, not everyone gets a chance."
"I will never move on."
"You think that now. Anyway, you be a good girl and don't cause trouble."
It was all useless, she nor anyone else will take me out of here. I was going to be trapped here with or without my wish. Something familiar caught my attention, it was his eyes. The photo album was open with an enlarged photo of us with Bertha. Our first photo. My mum's ranting zoned out as I kept staring at us, we looked so happy there.
"Perrie!"
I immediately looked at her in bewilderment. I had forgotten she was here or that I was staining the photo book with my tears.
"I was talking and explaining everything to you all this time and you... Stop doing this Perrie. It'll only bring you down."
"Please take me back mum. Please."
"I have sorted everything out for you, dresses are on the hangers, uniform is here, shoes -
She carried on talking and I listened silently without catching anything she was saying. I don't know where time had gone but it had gone. My mum was preparing to leave after having hugged me awkwardly. I hadn't even realised she was hugging me until now. Not that I would have hugged her back anyway.
"This is it. I am going. Make sure you work hard on everything okay."
"Mum?"
"Yes?" she replied, her eyes lit up.
"Take me with you..."
She sighed. "Bye Perrie."
.............................................................................
I followed a bunch of girls, all neatly tucked in their blue skirt , white shirt and hair tied up. In fact, everyone had their hair tied up. I didn't know where my English classroom was but those girls all had the same book in their hands so I just stuck with them.
"She's new!" someone squealed.
"Who?", another girl asked.
"The one with the hair down.", I could feel all of them staring at me now. I looked at my feet, unable and unwilling to introduce or talk with anyone.
"Can she talk?", someone whispered a bit too loudly.
After what felt like forever, I went inside the class, a very pale class with no posters or signs, just desks of two and a chalk board. Very old fashioned style. I didn't know where to sit since everyone had partners already. There was an empty seat next to a girl with pig tails, she was occupied with a book and had her bag on the free seat. I decided to sit there anyway.
