Chapter 44:
Zayn's POV:
Like a coward, I hung up on her, too weak to listen further to her frantic, depressed voice. It was as if she hadn't spoken for days and now that she had, it came out all broken and torn. Like fire that crackles after being mocked by water, it pierced my heart to hear her burn like that.
"What's this?" Louis, my close friend, asked. He was drunk yet he could see the tiny sprinkles in my eyes.
"It was her wasn't it?" he asked. Louis knew about Perrie, he had known since that day at the bakery. In fact, so did Harry. The boys never let me hide anything.
"Let's get the other lads and go take that audition!" Louis carried on speaking random nonsense. I ignored him.
"Zayn, are you listening mate?"
"Louis, you better go home."
"First the audition. Promise me the audition. I am not drunk, I mean this. Had enough of teaching. It's time for something new and when we have a chance, why not take it?"
"Get up. I'll drop you off."
After getting Louis to finally get in the car, I drove to his house.
"Zayn, can you drop me here."
"That's not your house."
"I know that."
I didn't even realise when Louis jumped out the car and raced his way to a large mansion and went inside. What the...? I decided to go in after him, God knows what he might be up to. There was a warden standing beside the big wooden door who seemed to be waiting for me by the looks of things. I should have known! Louis, Harry, Liam and Niall were all standing opposite a man, ready with a mike.
"Sorry he's a bit late Simon." Louis apologised to the man.
"It's fine. Just show me the demo."
"Zayn!" Niall hushed, thrusting a mike in my hands. "We're singing Torn! Just go with the flow." There was no way I was trying out for this. Not only was I happy with my job, I also couldn't think of anything like this when Perrie was suffering alone.
"Perrie wouldn't want you to lose an opportunity like this. She'd want this for you." Harry said.
"No. I can't. I'm sorry guys."
"What's wrong?" Simon questioned.
"Nothing. Just making sure we know -
"No Liam! We are not making sure of anything. I don't want to do this."
"So you want to miss this chance? You know, I see a potential in you. At least give it a shot first then decide." Simon advised.
I looked at the boys, all of them were pleading. Only once. Then I'll leave.
"Fine but only one time."
"Yay!" the boys cheered altogether. We sang Torn, mostly Liam and Harry had the solos but it was a good first demo. Surprisingly, I felt relieved and relaxed. Also, I meant every word of it...
"Weyhey! I knew you would feel good after this!" Louis said.
"And your final decision is Zayn...?"
I thought about this. If it worked out, I could remove the teacher label off which meant Perrie could be with me without having to hide and at the same time, I wouldn't have to worry about costs. More importantly, this was the only way I had felt good in a long time since Perrie went. If I took this chance, it'll only do good.
"Yes."
"Well then. It's decided, you 5 will be in my record label from tomorrow."

Perrie's POV:
"So who was he huh?" Miranda nudged her elbow at me. We were sat on my bed, almost everyone was here. Apparently, the hostel rarely got phone calls and this was the first since January so everyone was excited and wanted to know more but how do I tell them it was my teacher on the phone or that he hanged up on me. I remembered to blink after Sheila snapped her fingers in front of my face.
"Perrie. Tell us please! It's always so boring here." Miranda complained.
"It was just a friend."
"Ooh! What sort of friend?" Misty chimed in.
"A special friend."
"Is he the one that gave you the ring?" Miranda asked, her eyes nearly popped out of her sockets. I averted my eyes down on the bed and tried my best to hide the upcoming tears.
"Oh no! Don't cry!" Sheila said, sounding tensed.
"What is going on here!"
I looked over at the door to see who it was. It was Taylor.
"Come on everybody out. You know the rules, everyone must be in their own room by 9."
"Sorry Taylor."
"Go quick before the warden comes to check."
All the girls filed out of my room instantly, leaving Taylor hanging by the door. She was really obsessed with me wasn't she? This time, I wanted to talk. Maybe she knew how to make someone feel better, I should at least try.
"Can I talk to you?"
She lit up immediately and sat next to me almost too eagerly. She had grace though.
"You don't have to tell me everything."
"I know. I wasn't going to."
"Start whenever you feel ready."
I took a deep breath. "Have you ever felt lost in love?"
Taylor chuckled before answering. "I always lost in love. I've had more than 10 failed relationships."
"I don't mean winning or losing. I mean getting lost, like being dependant on someone that you forget how to live without them."
"Oh. You mean to say you are struggling to forget someone."
"Yes and no."
"Why yes?"
"Because it's true. I can't shake him out of my head."
"But...?"
"But I don't want to shake him out of my head."
"So you are confused."
"No. I am sure I want him."
"Does he want you?"
"Yes."
"Then what's the issue?"
"My mum and his mum. Both think we deserve better."
"Is this why you are here?"
"Yes."
"Okay. Listen to me Perrie. No matter what anyone says, at the end of the day, they don't breath for you. You have to choose for yourself. And if you believe he is the one then you listen to yourself."
"I am listening to myself Taylor. It's him."
"Well then that's clear isn't it?"
What?"
"If he has left you, why are you bothering to tie things together? You have to fold the knot more than one time or it'll stay loose."
"I am not broken."
"I am not saying that you are but the direction you are heading may lead -
"Maybe you should mind your own business and stop interfering with others. That way, you might get the 11th one to stay!"
I felt terribly guilty after I realised what I had blurted out in anger. I wanted to apologise too but I simply couldn't get the words out. Taylor was clearly hurt but she smiled and walked out.
"See you some other time maybe? Bye." she said.
God! What was wrong with me? I never lashed out at anyone before.
