····King of the Mountains····
Robert Sheehan as Jeffrey Brandy
Yes, I am the King of the Mountains. I, Jeffery Brandy will definitely be the next Bear Grylls.
Yeah, I know what you're thinking. What kind of high schooler calls himself King of the Mountains? Is he like, 5? No, I'm not 5, I'm 16 and I am the King of the Mountains... to me, that is. You see, if you grew up in the middle of the woods with nothing around you except for trees and wild animals, you tend to adapt quickly. Especially if your Lumberjack dad kicks you out of the house every winter break for an excursion in the woods for a week. You're scared, cold, and only have a limited supply of energy bars. You kinda learn that you can't live off of sugar and granola.
Then, after about 4 years, I was finally able to live on my own with two twigs and a little bit of self endurance. I could finally go home and tell dad that I did what he told me to do. He would be proud of me. But the happiness didn't last long. I come home one day and dad's gone. He just... vanishes. That is not possible. His clothes are still are still here, so he didn't run off. If he were kidnapped, then there should've been some damage because I know that dad would fight back, but there was nothing. No signs.
Luckily, thanks to my survival skills, I was able to live on my own for a few weeks before a woman came to get me.
"Hi, my name is Jillian. I'm... your mother." That was all the words she said before taking me away from home--from dad's home. We drove for 3 days and 4 nights. Trust me, I know. When you're in the forest, you learn to see the time from the stars and sun. After those long car drives, we arrived in a small town with a big sign made out of metal... Remington. I looked out and frowned. There were a lot of stores, companies and oil factories. I didn't like it. They didn't have this kind of stuff in the forest.
After coming to Remington and moving in with my so-called "mother", I found out that I had a younger sister, Joy. She had brown hair, just like mine and had green eyes, just like. I guess she was my sister. She was also a freshman at Remington High school--the school I would be going to.
I didn't like high school. Not at all. Too much bustling around and yelling. When you're in the wild, those things scare you. So basically, high school scared me. After many many attempts, I finally convinced my mom to home school me with a tutor.
But that's just my introduction. Here is my story...
{~}
I sat on the roof of my house, howling to myself like a madman, I might add. I did it mostly at night, hoping to find some connection back to my home land. Though I was human, I felt more like an animal at times. Mom and Joy hates it when I monkey around in the house. That's why I do it outside of the house.
I grunted and ran my fingers through my brown hair, sighing in frustration. I've been doing this every night now and there is still no progress. I guess, I really am away from home... I was about to jump off the roof when something caught my eye. A girl walking in the streets beneath me. She was redheaded--like my dad. From where I was standing, I couldn't see much of her appearance, but all I knew was that she looked stunning. My eyes may be decieving me, but did she have green eyes? Just like me?! I was about to jump down when she entered the house besides me. My heart thumped in anticipation, hoping she would be living there. I turned back to the streets, wondering if something else interesting would catch my eye, but all I saw was a blonde girl, wobbling down the streets. I frowned. I didn't like blondes, because that color didn't come very often in nature. It was like an alarming color. Too bright. I stared at her intensely. She had a beer in her hand and was muttering something to herself. I wrinkled my eyebrows, but didn't pay too much attention to it. When mom was stressed from work, she would drink wine and got pretty drunk. This must be the same thing.
When I noticed that there was nothing interesting about this girl, I turned to go back into my window. I ran downstairs and into the living room where Joy was playing Call of Duty. I didn't like video games either. Too much graphics. I sat next to her and started munching on some beef jerky. Joy said the reason I acted like Sasquatch is because I eat too much beef jerky. I couldn't deny it.
"Are you trying to call back your pack?" Joy asked.
"Only if they hear me, which I doubt." I took another piece of jerky before freezing. "Joy, do you know the family that lives next to us?"
"Left or right?"
"Left."
"They're the Jensons. They've lived here for a long time. For like, 23 years. That girl, Winter I think..." Joy said. My body froze and my mind jolted into action. Winter Jenson. A beautiful name. "Yeah. She's their adopted daughter." I nodded slowly. I was slightly getting interested in this girl. I opened my mouth to say something, but the door flew open and mom ran in gasping for air.
"Joy! Jeffery! Thank god you're safe!" Mom said almost close to tears. Joy and I stared at her puzzled.
"What's wrong, mom?" Joy asked. Mom took a deep breath and pointed outside.
"There's been a murder."
