····The Goth····
I pushed the man off of Mallory and he slammed his head against his truck. He fell limply and lifelessly to the ground. I was surprised. I didn't even push him that hard.
But never mind that. I looked down at Mallory and shook her shoulders. She didn't move and she was bleeding pretty heavily from the head. I knelt down and wiped the blood with my forehead.
"....lo....ello?"
I heard a strange, static-like voice. I looked around, but didn't see anything.
"Hello? Mallory? Are you there?"
There! That voice again! It sounded so familiar, but I didn't know what it was or where it came from. I raised her head and a small "thing" fell to the ground. I raised an eyebrow in confusion and curiousness. I laid her head on my lap and picked up the small device.
"Hello?"
I damn near dropped the thing.
I put it up to me ear and heard someone on the other side cursing.
"Uh, hi?" I asked. I heard a loud crash from the other side.
"Oh my god, Charlie?! Are you okay?"
"Charlie? Is that you, Charlie?" I asked. There was a silence between us.
"Yesh, uh, hi.... Jason." Charlie said. I smiled a bit. She sounded so flustered and awkward.
"What are you doing in this little thingy? And do you know what happened to Mallory?" I asked. Charlie took a couple of deep breaths and she sounded really.... uncomfortable.
"Yeah, I'll explain later... Can you... Are you... Just drop by my house."
{~}
I knocked on Charlie's front door and stepped back politely. I looked down at myself and cursed silently. I looked so ratchet, it wasn't even funny. Black jeans and a black hoodie and red vans. Luckily, I never wore eye liner, so I wasn't fully gothic. Maybe.
Then, the door opened and a pretty lady stood in front of me. I stared at her with wide eyes. Did Charlie travel 10 years into the future?
"A-And you are?" she asked. I straightened my back, hoping my first impression would make up for the way I dressed.
"My name is Jason and I'm--"
"He's with me, Aunt Molly." Charlie appeared from behind. She had her hair in a braid and wore a baggy UCLA hoodie over shorts. I guess this is what girls wear during winter. Geezus.
Charlie gestured for me to come in and I did so, wiping my feet on the mat.
Charlie led me down towards the basement which was illuminated with colorful Christmas lights. When we go to the basement, it wasn't like Cabin in the Woods or anything. It was like... a home. With brightly lit walls, a couch, a tv, and even a mini fridge....
Wait.
A mini fridge? A brightly lit room? This room kinda sounds like--
"Jason?" Charlie asked. I turned to her in a daze. "Are you okay? You've been standings there for a long time without talking." she asked. I swallowed the lump in my throat.
"I'm good." I muttered. Charlie nodded slowly, but unsurely. She turned to her laptop and opened it up. As she typed in her password, the lamp in my throat grew bigger. The anxiety was killing me. Then, when the laptop turned on, my breath cut off. Because on the home screen of Charlie's laptop....
Was an Iris.
