····King of the Mountains····
I sat back in the driver's seat and sighed. I had finally gotten my license and right now, I just wanted to take Winter out on a drive. We drive to a lookout cliff of Remington at like, 8:00 at night. She sat next to me, also very silent. I didn't know what to say. It was already nearing Christmas break and I didn't know what to get her. Mallory and Damian are just... in their own league. Charlie and Jason are off doing their own thing--nor to mention they've already kissed. And what am I doing here? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. I haven't even Winter about my feelings, but that was all going to change tonight. I turned to Winter and she jumped.
"Winter, I--"
"Can I go first?" she asked. I jumped. That was never a good sign. I gulped and nodded reluctantly. She nodded and took a deep breath. I closed my eyes to soften the emotional impact. "Lately, I've been developing... feelings for you, Jeffrey." she said. I opened my eyes and gawked at her.
"Wh...at?"
"I don't know, its just... after spending so much time with you, I just... started... you know what I mean!" she cried out with a red face. I chuckled because her cheeks perfectly matched her hair.
"So, does that mean you like me?" I asked. Winter blushed and averted her jade orbs away from mine.
"If that's what you wanna hear..." she pursed her lips. My smile widened and turned into a grin; I literally felt like jumping out of my seat and yelling to the world that Winter Jenson liked me. And suddenly, a crazy idea just looks that popped into my head. I climbed out of the car and crawled onto the roof of my truck and stood up. It made me feel 30 times higher than I usually was. I cupped my mouth and grinned.
"LISTEN UP WORLD, I LOVE WINTER JENSON AND SHE LOVES ME BACK!!!!" I screamed argue top of my lungs. I laughed an saw a couple of lights flash on as derogatory remarks and insults were shot at me, but I continued to laugh. Winter looked her head out of the car and glared at me, but she blushing so I knew everything was A-OK.
"H-Hey! I didn't say 'love', I said like!" she stammered. I jumped off of the car and landed in front of her.
"Does it really matter?" I asked and cupped her cheeks as I leaned in to kiss her. It felt like fireworks went off inside of my mouth. Her lips were like... Extremely soft and tasted a bit like pink grapefruit. Winter moaned and leaned forward as she intertwined her fingers with mine and we embraced each other for a while. When I pulled away, I pressed my nose against Winter's as our hot breaths mixed.
"Okay... wow." she exclaimed. I laughed and pecked her.
"Does that make us official?" I asked. She bit her lip.
"I thought we were already official when you announced to the whole valley that we both had mutual feelings." she laughed. I bit my lip and hugged her tightly.
"Thank you. Thank you so much!" I cried.
"F-For what?"

"Do you wanna rent a movie?" Joy asked as she stuffed her face with Italian herb flavored croutons. Mom snatches the bag away from her and flicked her on the head.
"Do you ever stop eating? My goodness, you and your brother are exact opposites, yet completely alike." she said and stuffed the bag back into the cupboard. I followed her into the kitchen and sat down, finishing my homework. Mom slid into the seat in front of me and smiled at me. I glanced at her with a very creeped out expression.
"Can I help you?" I asked. Mom pressed her lips into a thin line and rummaged in a box of old letters. She pushed an old letter--with yellow grunge on the corners--towards me and looked at it strangely. There was no address. Just an envelope with its content and on the front was--
"Jeffrey Brandy..." mom said slowly as she read the bold words displayed on the front of the front. My eyes went wide and I looked up at mom. "This letter was given to me from your father."
I held my breath and set down my pencil. "W... What do you mean? When did you..."
"It wasn't that long ago, just a couple of weeks when I got this letter. He actually have it to me in person," she said. My eyes went wide.
"Y-You've met with dad?! Where?!" I raised my voice. Mom put her finger to her lips and quietly shushed me. I gulped and clenched my fists.
"He's cleaned up now. Trimmed his beard, bought a suit and everything. He's got a job in San Diego and is making good money. I'm honestly impressed." she said. I gulped and stared at the letter. "Go ahead, open it. It was for you anyways."
"...Why'd you wait so long to tell me?"
Mom hesitated to answer. "Because I wanted to establish a strong relationship between us first," she said. I frowned and lowered my head. "If I had given it to you before, you probably would've ignored me, argued with me, and hated me forever." she said. I suddenly felt really guilty. It was true. Ever since mom picked me up from the woods, I never had any special feelings towards her. I've never even met her before she picked me up! I was always close to my dad and never got to get close to any other family members.
"I'm sorry," I replied. Mom smiled and kissed me on the forehead.
"Take your time." she said and walked away. I sat there, staring at the letter--wondering what was inside of it. Was it an apology letter? A how-are-you-doing-after-I-left-you letter? Whatever it was, it couldn't be good.
I ripped open the envelope pulled out the letter. I started to read the clean, crisp letter and felt my eyes water.
Dear Jeffrey,
How are you? How's your mother and sister? I guess that isn't the best way to start a letter after I left you alone in the mountains and I truly am sorry. Leaving a young man like you in the mountains probably wouldn't look good in other parents eyes, but I trusted you. You're a great kid, Jeffrey. You're smart, athletic, clever, and sometimes an airhead, but that's who you are and I'm proud of you.
Right now I'm currently working as a lumber transportation company and guess what? I'm the CEO! It honestly wasn't my first option as a new job outside of the country, but it was the better than being out on the streets, am I right? Yeah, I know I am.
I love you, Jeffrey. You're my prize jewel and my favorite person in the entire world and the best son I could ever wish for. Your mother and I have actually been discussing whether or not to get back together, but we decided it wasn't up to us. It's up to you and Joy. I want to see you again, Jeffrey. I want to become a family again and live with your mother and Joy. I miss you. I miss you so much, Jeffrey. And I wish to hear back from you.
I felt a tear fall down on my cheek and onto my textbook. I set the letter down and cupped my face as I sobbed lightly.
"I love you too, dad..."
