"Is Mallory okay?" Winter asked. Mallory was on my couch with heavy bandages around her head and a bag of frozen peas on top of it. I glanced up from my laptop to check on Mallory. She was still knocked out cold and was sweating.
"Mm... can you plug in a fan near her? I wouldn't want her to wake up in a sweat tub." I said. Winter nodded and followed so. I turned to Jason and smiled. "Thank you, Jason. If you hadn't been there, I doubt Mallory would be breathing now." I said. Jason swallowed the lump in his throat before answering me. It seemed like he was nervous.
"Its fine. I just............. I couldn't just leave her." he said. I raised her eyebrow skeptically. That was one biiiiiiiig pause.
"O-Okay... well, if you don't feel comfortable leaving, I could drop you off. You did just knock a guy out and leave in in an empty parking lot." I said, but Jason shook his head. He stood up and grabbed his jacket.
"I'm fine, Charlie. I can drive. Take care, Charlie, Winter. I'll see you on Monday." Jason said. I forced a smile as he left up the stairs. He really seemed uneasy and sick. I couldn't let him drive like that.
"Stay here, Winter. I'll be right back." I said as I ran up the stairs. I ran right past the living room where aunt Holly was watching The Notebook.
"Charlie? Where are you--" I cut her off by running out the front door barefoot. I saw Jason just about to enter his car and he still had that crazed look on his face. I couldn't let him drive like that. He could crash! I mean, I would be a little faint from seeing all that blood.
"Jason!" I yelled. Jason flinched and turned o me. His face turned paler. I ran up to him--way out of breath. I put my hand on the edge of his car and painted heavily. "You... Drive... I can't..." I said in between wheezes.
"Charlie? Oh god, why would an un-athletic shut in like you be running?" Jason asked. I cleared my throat. I stood up straight and fixed my posture.
"I can't let you drive like that."
"Like what?"
"Like that!" I yelled as I stretched his face. "You look like you've seen a ghost and, I don't know, what if you get into a freak accident?!" I screamed at him. Jason jumped back and put his arms up in defense.
"Woah, I'm not going to get into an accident! What's wrong with you?" Jason yelled back at me. I glared at him.
"Yes you will! Do you even know what you look like right now?!"
"This is how I look like everyday!"
"No you don't! Everyday you look like you want to say something, but you don't! And right now, you look like you want to scream at the world! So do it! Scream at me!" I shrieked right in Jason's face. He chewed on his bottom lip and looked around wearily. I was waiting. I wasn't going anywhere. Not until he fesses up.
Jason sighed and glanced at me. His sharp, golden eyes glittered even in the dim light.
"Charlie Winston, are you Iris?"
