····King of the Mountains····

While Joy and mom walked in front of me, window shopping in stores that sold wedding and prom dresses inside the mall, I stayed at least 10 feet back to retain my manliness. I had to keep pride for dad.

"Jeffrey, are you sure you don't want anything?" mom asked. I sighed.

"A ride back home would be nice..." I mumbled, but fortunately mom asked a rhetorical question and didn't bother for my answer. I groaned loudly, making sure the two heard me.

"Hun, if you're tired, then go sit down." mom said irritated.

"Can I have some money?"

I looked through some of the hunting stores in the mall since I was getting my license in a couple of weeks, I could ride out of Remington and go hunting. I felt goosebumps pop up just thinking about the rush I would get in a few more months. Mom had given me $150, which was enough to buy some hunting gear.

As I looked through the camo gear, I bumped into someone, whom I didn't even see. He was leaning over the glass counter and when he stood up, he was about near my shoulder. I looked down and he looked up amazed.

"Woah... sorry, dude. I... well, I didn't see you there." I said trying not to be offensive. The guy laughed.

"That's okay. I mean, a big guy like you shouldn't care where he's going, huh?" he patted me in my lower back, since he couldn't reach. I frowned. At times like these, I hated being tall. I glanced over at the counter and realized he was looking at some guns.

"Picking out a gun?" I asked. He made a distorted face and shrugged.

"Yeah, I guess. I'm still having trouble picking one out cause my... my dad usually does this kind of stuff." he said. I looked over and frowned. Hunting guns were hard. You had to get a specific one for the territory, animal, range wise, and of course, the one that looked the best.

"Well, what kind of gun are you looking for? I'm pretty experienced in stuff like this." I said. The guy tapped his chin and scrunched up his nose in deep thought.

"One that would be useful for wide-range attacks--like faraway kind of attacks. Oh, but one that's quiet, 'ya know? I wanna be all sneaky and quiet..." he chuckled. I raised an eyebrow at him and laughed.

"Ok, so kinda like a sniper?" I asked. He shrugged. "Those are pretty pricey..." I warned. He shrugged again and pulled out a wad of hundreds. I almost jumped back into the key chain rack. "Where the heck did you get that kind of money?!" I whispered so that nobody heard.

"I have connections." he simply said. I laughed and pointed to a McMillan CS5.

"What you'll need is this kind of gun. it's used for long range, silent attacks. I personally don't like it, but you know... whatever rocks your boat." I said. The guy smirked.

"Yeah... animals..." he said. I felt chills go up and down my spine and the hairs on my arms stood on end. Did he have that effect when he talked? Then, that ominous feeling disappeared as soon as his facial expression changed. "Hey man, thanks a lot. What's your name by the way?"

"Jeffrey." I said. Mom warned me not to give my last name out to strangers cause you don't know what kind of snakes are lurking in these tall grasses.

He held out his hand. "Alex." he said. I reluctantly shook his hand, afraid of that electric feeling would come back, but there was no electric feeling. Just shivers. His hands were colder than ice and his grip was almost on par with mine, which could strangle an alligator.
