"Winter!" I yelled with excitement. She glanced up at me--note, I was on the roof-- and smiled. "How was school?" I asked. she shrugged, but her smile widened.
"I believe I made a good friend."
"Really? That's cool, are you ever going to bring her over?" Again, she shrugged.
"She's not the type to really socialize, but if I can, I'll be sure to introduce her to you." Winter said. I shook my head frantically.
"No thanks! I'm good for meeting new people! Not after you brought those two people from before. They reeked of perfume and deodorant." I said. Winter giggled and pointed to her house.
"Okay, fine. I won't bring her over. Anyways, I have to go study. I'll see you later, okay? Don't stay out too late, or you'll catch a cold~!" Winter warned. I smiled and watched her enter her house. You could say that I was over protective, but I just really liked her and of anything bad happened to her, I would go on a rampage.
I jumped back down onto the pavement and entered the house. And as usual, Joy was on her Call of Duty. I sat next to her and picked up her bag of chips. Smoked barbecue. My favorite.
"Flirting with your girlfriend?" Joy smirked. I blushed and playfully pushed her.
"Winter is not my girlfriend."
"But you wish, right?" Joy said. I blushed all the way up to my ears. "Just be careful. You never know what kind of dangers she could be in." Joy said as she grabbed a handful of chips and shoved them into her mouth. "I'm just sayhing, sthe could be in stherious trubble." Joy said with her mouth full. I grimaced. How un-ladylike.
"So... you're saying Winter could b the next murder victim...?" I asked. Joy shrugged.
"If the killers a real freak, they probably go after certain people. I saw on tv, this serial killer only killed prostitutes and ripped out their wombs. Do you know how messed up that is?" Joy laughed. I scooted away from her. I could feel my face being drained of its color.
"Joy, you talk as if you know the murderer..." I said slowly. Joy narrowed her eyes at me and laughed.
"Haha, what are you taking about? I'm not a criminal! You're so rude! Why would I be associated with some freak who kills girls?" Joy asked. I leaned closer.
"How do you the killer only killed girls?" I asked. Joy paused her game and backed away from me cautiously. She had fear written all over her face. I snatched her wrist and squeezed it, making her yelp. "Are you hiding something from me, Joy?"
"Ouch! Jeff, you're really scaring me right now..." Joy said trembling. I gasped and quickly let her go. I stood up and looked down at Joy, a stream of tear ran down her cheek. I pulled her in for a hug and embraced her.
"I-I'm sorry. I'm just... kind of stressed right now. I didn't mean to hurt you. I'm sorry, Joy." I quickly apologized. At this point, I figured every girl in the world was fragile and could be hurt very badly at any moment. I had already hurt one. What has become of me? Is this whole murder thing getting to my head? I pulled away from Joy as I wiped her tear away.
"I'm going to go to bed. I think I deserve a good nights rest," I said walking to my room. "I'm sorry, Joy."
