····King of the Mountains····

"Ahhwoooooooooo..." I howled. Again, I just wanted to get some sort of sign. Something from the Rocky Mountains, something from the animals... something from dad. But still, there was no sign. Not ever. I opened my mouth to try again, but I was hit with a flying projectile. I winced and looked around for any predators, but there was only an angel looking out of the window next to me. Winter glared at me and picked up another rock, but I put my arms up.

"Okay, okay! I won't do it anymore!" I cried out. Winter smirked and put down the rock. I climbed down on the water pipe and stood in front of her. Over the past week, me and Winter have become like... best friends, I guess. "Were you doing homework? I'm sorry."

"No, I wasn't doing homework. But you're disturbing the neighbors. I'm surprised they haven't called the police yet."

"Oh no, I hate the police. The sounds the cars make scares me. Bee-do, bee-do, bee-do~" (A/N: Despicible Me 2 anyone?) Winter giggled. She seemed so fragile. Every single piece of her was like a porcelain vase. If I touched it, I could leave a fingerprint or even worse, break it. "If you weren't studying, what were you doing?" I asked. A shocked expression clouded Winter's face and I immediately knew. "It's about that girl, huh? Are you still traumitized by it?" I frowned. Winter forced a smile and pushed her hair behind her ear.

"I still get scared, but my nightmares have stopped for now. I guess I'm just too paranoid." she said. I frowned. I didn't like seeing the sad Winter. Seeing the sad Winter made me sad too. I cupped the side of her face and smiled.

"Well, if those nightmares come back, just know that I'm here for you. All day, cause I'm homeschooled." I reminded, which brought a smile to Winter's face. She closed her eyes and inhaled the night air.

"You're like a werewolf, you know? Always coming out at night, but when you do, it's for a good cause..." Winter said. Her relaxed face shone in the moonlight, making me blush. Not to mention the fact that my hand was still cupping her cheek. I jerked it away and looked around frantically. "What's wrong?"

"A-Ah, I-I... I gotta go. I have homework to do," I said jumping over the fence. I turned to look back at Winter and waved at her. "See you tomorrow."

"Do we have any smoked meat?" I asked Joy. She looked up from her Ghost Adventures and shook her head.

"You ate it all, remember?" I grunted in frustration. Was there anything to eat in this house? Anything except gummy worms, potato chips and cereal. I sat down next to Joy and watched Ghost Adventures with her. I never understood these kinds of shows? Why would you investigate ghosts? If they're bad spirits, they'll follow you home and haunt your whole family. Idiots.(A/N: I actually LOVE Ghost Adventures. They're so funneh~)

"Do you think that girl's ghost is around here?" I asked. Joy sat up and glared at me.

"Jeff! Don't jinx it!" Joy cried out. I raised my eyebrows in surprise.

"W-Why?" I asked. Joy growled and punched me in the arm.

"Because she was murdered! Right outside of our house! Don't you know what kind of disadvantage we have?! If she does chooses to haunt a house, she'll chose ours! I don't want to be haunted!" Joy cried out. I laughed my ass off.

"Oh Joy, you know ghosts aren't real, right?" I said through outbursts of laughter.

"H-How do you know?!" I pet Joy's head and stood up.

"Because I'm the King of the Mountains. If ghosts were real, they would have to reveal themselves to their king, right? Besides, you've never seen a ghost before."
