····The Prefect····

I watched Charlie pull the paper out of the printer and hand it to Mallory-- who was wearing a coral pink sweater and leather leggings with tan boots. Her hair was wavy and she had light make up on. The perfect outfit to seduce a creepy, middle aged man.

"I have a print out of the script--"

"Script? Haha, no. I'm not going to follow any monotone script. I already have my own script planned out." Mallory replied. Charlie stared at her blankly. I was expecting her to lash out, but instead, she forced a smile. Charlie turned back around and pulled out a device in her drawer.

"No script? Fine with me. But you have to wear this. Its a device that reads your heart rate. If it gets too high, I'll tell you to leave. And put this ear piece in. I can talk into this microphone here, and you can hear it from there. That way, we have a connection." Charlie said. Mallory followed and put the devices on her.

"You sure know a lot about this stuff, nerd." Mallory muttered. Charlie rolled her eyes.

"Advanced engineering and computer genius, what can I say without tooting my own horn?" Charlie said with a smirk. Mallory rolled her eyes this time. I didn't know if they were fighting or bonding. Either way, it seemed so... awkward.

"Anyways, you should hurry. Me and Winter will be here listening to everything, so don't try and make any risky moves. Just get him to admit that he possibly murdered Audrey, then excuse yourself." Charlie said. Mallory nodded and started up the stairs from Charlie's basement. As she did, the same woman who met me before came down at the same time. In her hand she had three glasses of iced tea and a jar of gummy worms. She looked back at Mallory who was heading up the stairs, then looked back with  confused look on her face.

"Who was that?" she asked. Charlie shrugged and turned back to her computer.

"... a girl from my school." Charlie replied taking the iced tea and handed one to me. She picked up the jar of gummy worms and set I on the table. "Thanks, aunt Holly."

"You're welcome," the woman replied. She turned to me and smiled. "Winter, would you care to explain more into depth?" she asked. I forced a smile.

"We're working on a project." I made it up. Charlie's aunt didn't know that I was a sophomore and that Mallory was a senior.

"Well, okay. Have fun you two." she said as she headed up the stairs. Charlie sighed when her laptop beeped. We both turned our heads and a small icon popped up. It was Mallory.

Charlie slipped in an ear piece and handed one to me.

"Mallory?" Charlie asked into the microphone.

"....Yeah, I'm in front of his house. Do you want me to go in?"

   "Sure. Make sure you knock."

   Mallory scoffed.

"Duh. Who do you think I am?" Mallory knocked and the three of us were silent for a while. Then, Charlie and I heard the door open and Mallory sucked in her breath. "Hi, Mr. Hale! It's nice to meet you again!"

"Why, if it isn't Ms. Mallory Govern! Haven't seen you since... well, since Audrey." Davey said in a thick southern accent.

"Yeah, I'm sorry about your loss."

"Oh, don't worry 'bout it. Audrey's in a better place now. Why are you here?" Davey asked. I could tell Charlie and I were both anticipating what answer Mallory would give.

"I'm actually here to ask you a couple of questions. About.... Audrey, of course."

"C'mon Mallory! He doesn't want to give out information about Audrey!" Charlie cursed.

"Sure! Why not? Come on in!"

Charlie stared at the screen in disbelief. Then she looked at me win her cheeks puffed out. She was trying to hold in a laugh.

"He really does have a thing for blondes!"
