Chapter 16: ComingBackTogether↟↡ Pt. 2

As we set the R.V up by a few designated trees, I took my pack from the car before leaving it with Dale. I don't think someone would just leave with my stuff, but I can still have doubts and worries like the rest. After I was done setting up, Rick motioned for me to come to the hood of the car. And before us did I see a map, and I began to feel the excitement of seeing this sort of map, the elevations, the details. Much like the maps I was given back as a Fire lookout.

"How long has this girl been lost?"
It took myself a moment to think, I tried counting days. Or scratch that, my sister was the one who tried so desperately to do so. But my memory was foggy, trying to count the number of nights was difficult. For whatever the reason, but it didn't matter for Shane took the question quicker than I could have handled.

"This'll be day three."

"This is a country survey map, shows terrain and elevations."

Looking over to shoulders did Andrea move out of the way, giving me the space to look clearly at what we are looking for. Which areas need to be covered and which were already searched through.

"This is perfect. We can finally get this thing organized. We'll grid the whole area. Starting searching in teams."

Rick took the words right out of my mind, but perhaps missing the aspect of going in teams. I rather not be responsible for anyone other than myself, and besides. Daryl and I could cover more ground going in different directions, or otherwise I would be taking someone else. Like Andrea for example.

"Not you...Not today. You gave three units of blood. You wouldn't be hiking five minutes in this heat before passing out...And your ankle, push it now, you'll be laid up a month, no good to anybody."
"I guess it's just me and Blake...We're gonna head back to the creek, work our way from there."
I was taken back by Daryl's sudden leadership to boss me around, I know he just wants to keep going. But I rather go alone, perhaps find another map so I can know where I might be heading. Rick looked on over to me, probably seeing how I didn't agree to this. But I nodded anyway.

"I can still be useful, I'll drive up to the interstate, see if Sophia wandered back."

"Alright, tomorrow then. We'll start doing this right."

Not seeing Andrea volunteer was more than a shock in my opinion, after yesterdays talk about going to find him. Everyone just forgets about the promise they made to Carol.

"That means we can't have our people out there with just knives. They need the gun training we've been promising them."

My elbows rested against the car now, it seems like a good idea. But I am not so sure I still feel comfortable, its takes more than just knowing how to shoot to take care of gun. Whatever sort of weapon it might be, and I will be honest right here and right now. I've never fired a shotgun before.

"I prefer you not carrying guns on my property. We've managed so far without turning this into an armed camp."
I nodded in agreement, I understand that entirely. The guns draw noise, and every time we fire it. The sound travels and they just keep walking in the direction until another noise sounds them away. Besides, this is his farm and I can respect it. But of course it was Shane to talk against it.
