Moonlit Futures

Lexi POV

Falling hard I turned quickly to face the wolf attacking me. Baring my teeth we began to circle each other slowly. My back leg throbbed from where his teeth had sunk into it and I was limping. Watching his eyes zero in on my leg I pronounced my limp a bit more with some whimpers. When he charged at me I jumped over him. Grabbing his leg in my mouth I bit down hard. Jumping out of the way as he turned in a C motion, I nipped at his side catching him off balance. Shoving him with my shoulder I was quickly on top of him as he fell. Sinking my teeth into his throat I waited until I heard the clearing of a throat behind me.

Letting go of my opponent I shifted quickly and grabbed my long tshirt off the mat. Throwing it over my naked body, I helped Shane to his feet.

"You did good this time. I fell for the limp like an idiot!" He told me approvingly.

"You pulled your punches." I said narrowing my eyes at him.

"What? No way Lexi! You told me not to so I didn't."

"Cut the shit Shane. You pulled your punches, again."

"Lexi! You know I would never..." Shane started whining out.

"Shane! You pulled them. There were several times you could have had her pinned and each time you held back. Lexi we need to work on your defense. Tomorrow you're with me on the mat." Dillon said.

"You just want to wriggle around on the mat with a sweaty female!" I quickly retorted back at him.

"Lexi,.." Dillon started before I interrupted him once again.

"What would Carmen think if she knew you were trying to get me onto the mat?" I said fake taping my chin.

"Lexi! You better not!"

"Better not what dear? Tell me something I already know?" Carmen slunk up behind Dillon. With her killer looks she was a female that all others could hate if she weren't so damn nice. Brown hair fell in waves to her mid back with natural highlights peeking out. Her naturally tan face, with its heart shape sported a full mouth and green almond shaped eyes.

"Carmen! She was kidding! You know I could never!" Dillon said quickly trying to back track. It was funny to watch this 6'5 behemoth with his Adonis like body cower in front of Carmen's slight 5'4 frame. Giggling Shane and I watched Carmen lead him on a bit more with her taunts.

"Is our big bad beta scared of little old me? Maybe we should tell the alpha you don't need to be beta anymore if little old me can scare you so easily." Walking over she wrapped her arm around my shoulder. "Who wouldn't want to wriggle with feisty little thing on the mat!" Kissing my cheek she walked back over to Dillon and wrapped her arm around his waist. Smiling he looked down at her.

"You know it's not nice when the two of you gang up on me like that! My sister and my mate! You guys could rule the world with your evilness." He said ruffling my hair and kissing her forehead. Scowling I fixed my hair before telling them all goodbye. I really needed a shower!

Walking back to my room I looked around the pack grounds that over the past 2 years had become home to me. When Chris cast me out I ran for what seemed like miles in my wolf form before collapsing out of exhaustion. Waking up I was in a cell with a very angry alpha wondering what the hell a rouge was doing sleeping on his territory. Telling him my story he eventually warmed up to me and let me stay. Between Alpha Xavier, Beta Dillon, Carmen, Shane and the rest of the pack I had made a bunch of friends and family. They treated me as an equal and helped me to learn how to control my wolf. Sliding into my room at the pack house, I stripped and walked into the shower. Wincing as the hot water hit my wounds I sucked it up and scrubbed myself with my lily body wash, I left my hair alone. The messy bun would work for today and my hair always dried out to quickly if I washed it every day. Stepping out of the shower, I wrapped a towel around me and stepped into my room. Seeing Xavier lounging on my bed made me laugh. Going over to my dresser I picked out a pair of leggings, baseball tee and glasses. Stealing back into the bathroom I dressed quickly before bounding out and jumping on the bed. Laying on my back next to Xavier I could tell he was tense. Slipping onto my elbow I looked at his face.

"What's up?" I was met with silence. "I thought we were going to get pizza and watch movies all day?"

"Lexi, I can't. I have to get ready for an alpha visit." He whispered closing his eyes.

"Sure X but please tell me what is going on." I was worried now. Xavier never acted like this.

"Lexi he's coming." He whispered out. Rolling of the bed I backed up until my back hit the dresser and I slid down. Putting my hands over my face I felt the familiar shooting pain throughout my chest at even the mention of him. It never went away. Hearing Xavier jump off the bed and sit beside me, I looked over at him.

"Why?"

"I don't know Lexi. I don't know when or why he's coming only that he said he wanted permission to come speak with me. Denying him could start a war. It's why we agreed to keep your location a secret and alliance intact when you first came."

"Oh Xavier. Why now? It's been 2 years."

"I don't think he knows you're here and I'd like to keep it that way. I think he just wants to check in and make sure we are still good in our alliance and that type of stuff." He said hugging me.

"I trust you. Not just as my friend but as my Alpha and protector. If he needs to be here then he needs to be here. If he needs to stay longer then I will deal with it. He can't get me with you and Dillon here to protect me."

"Lexi, you aren't the same girl from 2 years ago. If anything you could protect yourself and kick his ass." Xavier said with a laugh. Flicking my nose he got up. "I just didn't want you or him to be surprised. Promise you're going to be ok?"

"Promise!" I said drawing the X across my heart.

"I'll send Dillon to alert you whenever he gets here. We have until tomorrow before he shows."

"Sure thing Xav. I'm going to grab a book from the library and get back here to read since we aren't doing pizza and a movie."

"Grab two. You may even need 3 at the speed you read!" He said laughing.
