5 Days Later
Lexi POV
Rolling my shoulders, I braced myself and opened the large double doors in front of me. Strutting inside I made a beeline for the bar. Grabbing one of the empty barstools I gazed around the empty room in marvel. The room was elegant with a rectangular design. The ceiling was a series of curves that either met at the oblong doorways spaced every 10 feet with their massive double doors, or into the pillars running through the middle of the room. On either short side there was a bar or for the night they had set up off set of the stage along one of the larger, longer wall. I'm sure this was to be the service station for the night. To confirm my point waitresses were currently lining up there to get their trays full of drinks as people were to start coming in soon. Tearing my eyes away I looked around some more. The main color was a beautiful ivory, with jade accents on the walls surrounding the doors and pillars. The floor was a dark stained Cherry or Oak floor board. The lights cast pretty Lotus flower looking shapes in their faded yellow lights. Looking towards the stage I saw it was beautifully decorated with pale and dark grey curtains, with some ivory chiffon pieces thrown in. Seeing the DJ walking up to do his sound check I turned my attention back to the bar and my task at hand. Smiling as the bar tender approached me I ordered my usual Captain and Coke.
"So what are you brooding about today pretty girl?"
"The fact I can't seem to convince you to run away with me!" I said putting on a pretty pout. "Maybe today's the day though. What do you say gorgeous? Want to run away with me and start a new life?"
"And miss you squirm in your seat to avoid the gathering this year? Hell no!! By the way babe you look hot."
Tucking a few loose strands behind my ear I surveyed my outfit. The lace romper with its high neckline and solid sweatheart top fit like a dream. The black booties and simple silver chain I had paired with it really did seem to work. Carmen had done my hair up with curls coming this way and that way out of a sleek clip that kept it all up, barely. My hair was so thick I was a little afraid it was going to come undone but Carmen had assured me the braids at the side and bobby pens holding it up were enough. Glancing back at John I saw that he was in his work uniform.
"They making you work tonight?" I asked him curiously.
"Every gathering. I manage the bar well enough and since we can only have wolves running the show it severely cuts back on the staff we have." He said checking over some list. Glancing around I saw close to 40 people waiting on instructions or people to start coming in.
"Doesn't seem so short staffed to me." I said with a shrug.
"Darling that's because you've never been to a gathering," he told me with a wolfish smile. Sitting back in my chair I pouted playfully. As I did this the DJ started up with some music and people started to walk into the ballroom.
"So where is that delectable mate of yours?" Smirking at him as he turned to grab another bottle. Hearing his soft growl made me laugh silently until I felt someone come to sit in the chair next to me. Glancing over I saw Nina. "Hey there doll! Speak of the devil and they shall appear! You want to run away with me tonight? We can start a new life and live happily ever after?" I asked giving her my best puppy dog eyes. Hearing John's soft growl we both burst into a fit of giggles.
"I just may with you looking this smoking! Ow ow! Hot mama over here!!" Nina called out loud followed by a blown kiss at John. Seeing him smile, I felt her relax next to me. "So tell me girly, why are you here? This isn't your normal scene." She said turning towards me as John placed a glass of champagne next to her elbow. Gracing him with a smile she grabbed his hand and nipped at his knuckles before releasing him with a cheeky grin.
" I'll give you one guess and it starts with a C!" I told her haughtily.
"Damn. If I'd known my sister would have been able to get you out of the house I'd have made sure she did it two years ago!" Catching my eye I could see her giggle softly. Relaxing back in my chair we started to chit chat about various things before I saw a vision clad in a red dress come to stand beside us.
"I didn't bring here so you could get drunk and not have a good time." Carmen told me putting her hands on her hips. Pairing me with that gaze, I started to get up out of the chair as she leaned over to hug Nina. "Let's go and dance."
Laughing I continued to dance rapidly with Carmen and Nina. Stopping I grabbed Carmen's hand and mimed that I was hot and pointed to the bar. Smiling she gave me a thumbs up and then a frown and several points back to the dance floor. Crossing my fingers and showing them to her I took off to the bar. Crossing over to the bar I heard a low throaty growl causing me to take off towards the doors on the other side. Bursting out of them I sucked in a huge breath of air at the sight before me.
