Can't Help || Auston Matthews

Ch. 13

Auston's POV- September 2016

I could feel someone staring at me while I put on my hockey gear. I reached for my jersey and slipped it on.

"Can I help you?" I asked Nathan who was staring right at me.

"You asked Esmeralda out?"

Everyone in the locker room stopped what they were doing and looked at me.

"Yes I did" I said.

"And she said yes?"

I nodded and smiled at him.

"I asked her and she said no, but you asked her and she said yes"

He frowned a bit.

"Auston has actually taken the time to get to know her"

I looked at Connor.

"While you were busy talking about her underage nudes, Auston was talking with Esmeralda asking if she was ok"

Nathan nodded slowly.

"Where are you taking her out?"

"It's a surprise" I stated earning a frown from him.

Truth is, I didn't have anything planned. My family had left this morning, and I hadnt really had time to make reservations. I needed to talk with her, and that was going to be a little hard to do since I had not seen Esmeralda all day.

"How do you know this?" I asked.

I looked at Connor who chuckled.

"George actually spilled the beans"

I had learned the blond's name, and it was George. He and Esmeralda were good friends and actually went to UCLA together.

"Tell us if she's flexible"

I looked up when I heard a throat clear. I smiled as George looked at Nathan with no emotion what so ever.

"No wonder she said no to you"

Coach chuckled and looked at Jack.

"Looks like you're getting Mic'd up"

I finished changing and made my way out.

"Be back in 5"

I nodded at coach and closed the door behind me. I looked around and spotted Gabriel, one of the interns sitting on the floor reading.

"Hey, do you know where Esmeralda is?" I asked.

He glanced up and reached for his headphones.

"Behind you"

I turned around and smiled at Esmeralda who grinned up at me.

"I have been looking for you since I got here" I stated.

She let out a sigh.

"Ok, I'm not the only one"

She looked up at me.

"You know how you said we should have dinner and then go watch a movie?"

"Yeah" I said.

"I have a midterm tomorrow, and after that I have a midterm review for my other midterm on Thursday. It's going to be a long day tomorrow "

"So you want to postpone?" I asked.

She shook her head and smiled.

"No of course not, how about we stay in? We could order some takeout and watch a movie at my place or if you want we could have it at your place"

I looked at her and nodded.

"Honestly" I began to say.

She cocked her head to the side.

"I haven't made any reservations" I told her.

She smiled.

"So you wouldn't mind if we did that instead?"

"I don't mind" I stated.

"Ok, that's good"

"Are you staying after the game?" I asked.

She shook her head.

"No, I need to go to bed. I have a long day ahead of me tomorrow"

"Ok, so I'll text you" I told her.

She smiled.

"Ok, good luck tonight"

"Good luck on your midterm" I said.

She squeezed my hand and I watched as she made her way over to Gabe. I turned when I heard a throat clear. George grinned at me and patted my back.

"Your coach says it's been 5 minutes"
