Song of the Chapter: I'll Never Go
Artist: David Archuleta
I turned around and it was Lena. I caressed her in my arms and she melted into my embrace. For me, she's family and for me, her heart is home. My home.
Lena shifted in my arms with discomfort; I released her from my grip instantly.
Y/N: I thought I lost you, that you had left me once again.
Her soothing, sweet voice reassured me.
Lena: I'm never leaving your side.
My cheeks flushed a rosy pink color. I avoided her eyes and instead, stared at the tiled floor.
Y/N: You promise?
Her fingertips lifted my chin and positioned my face so that she had a clear view of my facial expressions. She rubbed the edge of her thumb on my cheekbones and spoke.
Lena: I promise you I won't.
I reached for her hand and intertwined my fingers in between hers. I brought her hand to my lips and kissed it. She bit her lip. She pulled her hand away and entered the room. I followed behind her. The first person to greet me with a hello was my step-dad, Sylvester.
Sylvester: Y/N, you've grown so much since I last saw you. You were only—
Y/N: Eighteen at the time.
Sylvester: Wow, eighteen and now you're how old?
Y/N: Twenty-six.
Sylvester: It's been eight years since you left my house.
Y/N: Our. House.
Sylvester: Right. I wish we could've came to visit you, but we couldn't find the time with all our work and then, Keith had school and his extracurricular activities outside of school.
Y/N: Sure, I've heard that one before. I know what you're doing here. You're trying to get me away so you guys can finally be a family. Am I right? I was never family; I'm just the daughter of the man your wife hooked up with before you married her.
Lena tugged on my hospital gown. I quickly glanced at her and then back at him.
Y/N: Why are you quiet? Because it's true?
I scoff.
Y/N: I don't care if you push me away from my own mother; so, you can have her to yourself. We were never a family anyways.
I angrily point at my mother.
Y/N: So, keep her for all I care!
Keith takes out his earphones from his ears.
Keith: Can you guys keep it down? I'm trying to listen to some music!
He puts the earphones back into his ears to drown out all our voices. My mother taps his forearm and whispers into his ear. He then gets up and leaves the room, disappearing down the hall.
Y/N: What? You told him to leave because you don't want him to hear the truth? Right!?!
My mom scowled at the ground and then at me.
Y/M: That's enough.
Y/N: I'm not finished! You never loved me and you never treated me like I was your own daughter! You just stopped caring about me after you and dad split up!
She slammed the table with the palm of her hand which made a loud bang echo across the  room.
Y/M: I said that's enough!
It was dead silent in the room.
