                                   July 11, 1804

My eyes slowly lifted themselves, the spot next to me feeling vacant. A dim light in the room made me wake up fully—what in the hell is Alexander doing at this time? I lifted myself off the bed and walked towards my husband, wrapping my arms around his shoulders and resting my chin on his head. "Alexander, come back to sleep."

He paused for a second, but then continued to write and sighed. "I have an early meeting out of town."

       "It's still dark outside."

"I know," He kissed my right hand as his hand kept going. "I just need to write something down."

"Why do you write like you're running out of time?"

He shushed me with a calm and sothing voice. I ignored him. "Come back to bed, that would be enough."

"I'll be back before you know I'm gone."

       "Come back to sleep."

       "This meeting's at dawn."

I gave up. My hands caressed his chest before pulling away slowly. "Well I'm going back to sleep."

Before I could walk away, Alexander grabbed my hand, pausing his writing. I looked at him with hopeful eyes as he smiled at me. "Hey. Best of wives and best of women."
