Chapter 10:

Shion saw Orion reach out his hand to grasp his own. Hope for his survival filled his heart. The small flame of hope vanished when a brush of air filled his hand in place of a strong, warm hand. Eyes widening, the feeling of weightlessness overcame him as his eyes settled on Orion. He saw Orion's mouth move, but no sound flowed to his ears. He waited for the sweet embrace of death when he would meet the destructive impact of the cement four storeys beneath him. Had someone asked him many years before, how he imagined he would die, he would have said 'on a bed from old age'. It seemed his wish for a simple life was destined to never become reality. Shions heart tightened as he stared up at the sky. Such a dramatic way to go. The sky is blue and the ground will be red with blood.

As the air brushed against his cheeks, the sickening feeling of freefalling erupted throughout his body. This feeling was not dissimilar to hurtling down an amusement park ride without safety equipment. The feeling caused his heart to drop to his stomach while encouraging his last meal to make a reappearance. He jerked his body, so at least he wouldn't vomit, but as he turned, he saw a poster. For anybody else, this billboard had no meaning. It was just another billboard, but for Shion, that poster was the reason the will to live came raging back into his system. On the billboard, scrawled in large letters was the message, 'The Last Journey Home'. Sudden images of his mother, father and even Orion crying over what little remained of his shattered corpse soaked in the same blood that ran through his parent's veins appeared in his mind. This was the reality if he didn't at least try to survive, so the will to live ignited within Shion's conscience.

A person's will is an incredibly powerful force. Shion spread his limbs to maximise air resistance and attempted reach out to grab whatever he could in hopes of slowing down his descent. He reached out and grasped the first thing he felt. A balcony handrail on the first floor of the buidling. In doing so, Shion body slammed against the wall of the balcony. Pain penetrated into every bone of his body as his body, similar to how slamming into a speeding car would feel. His head thrummed with pain and dizziness. He ignored the dripping sensation he felt as pain radiated through his body causing sweat to appear. The smooth metallic hand rail became slick with sweat. As Shion's fingers began failing on him, they loosened. In panic, Shion's hand slipped from the hand rail and onto the cement of the balcony wall. The rough cement caused deep abrasions on Shion's hand, but he ignored the pain and continued to grasp for what his life was worth. He kept gripping until a scream ripped through the air as Shion's right shoulder was torn away from its corresponding joint. The weight of Shion's body rested solely on the strength of his arms; however, his arm was connected to his body with the weakest joint available on the body. The force of his sudden stop cause his shoulder to dislocate. Shion's eyes strained as his face conveyed the same desperation as his labouring breath and aching arm. His grip loosened, and he fell again. As he fell, Shion felt sudden resistance against his fall. The resistance was relatively soft; however, the speed of his fall accentuated the pain. Indescribable pain pierced his body at every joint and muscle available on the human body as he sunk deeper into the resistance. Shion took heavy breaths to numb the pain as he looked around to find his fall had been broken by a hastily assembled high jump mat from the unused sports centre not too far away. However, not even the mat was enough to save him from the pain. Exhausted, and battered, Shion lay on the mat unable to move while his body produced wave after wave of pain.

From the distance, Shion saw Orion running down the stairs in utter panic. He smirked at the often unseen flustered expression now blatantly obvious on his face before wincing in pain again. Orion rushed to the mat where Shion lay. He moved towards him on the mat and reached for him.

"Don't touch him," a gruff voice behind him ordered.

Orion growled lowly.

"If he has any internal injuries, they'll worsen if you try to move him," the same voice reassured Orion.
