Chapter 49:
"What are your intentions?" Classara asked over the phone.
"Organise a time for us to get together and discuss whatever farce we're planning. Your father is interested in seeing you enter into a marriage, so a marriage we'll give him. I need to take over the company. His condition was that I got married which means that I technically have the freedom of choice. You happened to be the one picked for the operation," Orion replied.
"Make your point," Classara snorted as she rolled her eyes.
"We can't get married in our state, but if we marry overseas, it won't be recognized here. What should we do?" Orion pondered.
"If your marriage is void, then technically you haven't married. We can marry each other and have our own partners," Classara sarcastically offered.
"Wipe that thought off your mind before I burn down your mansion. I only have one wife. Give me an actual solution," Orion grumbled.
"It's possible. There isn't legalised gay marriage here yet, but there's something close. There was a bill that was created a few decades ago that allowed something similar to marriage. The rights are all the same. If you die, all the money goes to your baby, and everything is exactly the same as if you were married; however, it just doesn't come with that tag, 'married'. It's a separate bill some people aren't happy with because it still discriminatory of same sex marriage. We can use it to our advantage though because it's technically still 'marriage' without being marriage," Classara spoke seriously.
Considering the option seriously, Orion asked, "Are there any other options?"
"You can move overseas if you really want to," Classara huffed.
"After the marriage certificate, or whatever certificate it is, is signed, is there anyway of backing out of it?" Orion asked seriously.
"Honey, that's called divorce. Why would you want to divorce straight after you get married?" Classara chuckled lightly.
Flicking through some documents, Orion seriously voiced his concerns, "Stop fooling around. If you marry a woman, do you really think no one is going to try and make you divorce? I need to cover any loopholes that my father can use to make me back out of my marriage. You should consider a way out too. I have no plans to let go of Shion once he's in my hands whether my father approves of my marriage or not. There was no formal contract between us with our arrangement, so my father could still take back his promise. He wants an heir to the Lukenlore company that I can't give him if I'm married to Shion."
Yawning limpidly, Classara's choice gave a tiresome sigh as she answered in a tone that would indicate that the answer was obvious, "We're in the twenty-first century. Medical science has evolved. We now have such a thing as surrogacy. You give the swimming critters over to a lab and they'll give it to someone who wants to carry your child. Naturally there's a cost associated with it, but I'm sure the cost is less than a penny in your eyes."
Orion hung up before any more sarcastic answers could come his way.
He thought hard and deep about his future plans with Shion, and decided that any decision he made, shouldn't be made under the cause of stress.
He leaned back in his chair to looked up at the clock. Seeing the time, Orion schooled his expression and headed out the door.
In a small café filled with elegant seating arrangements and tasteful art, Orion and Shion sat facing each other.
"With so much caffeine in my system it would be a miracle if I could sleep tonight," Shion blissfully sighed as he sipped his second cup of coffee.
