Chapter 18:
Shion breathed the stale city air in for the first time in weeks. Regardless of how stale the air was, he appreciated the freedom that came with being outside of Orion's apartment. Standing not too far away, Levi watched as Shion gracefully danced around the area with a look of enthusiastic joy spread across his face. He felt an inherent amount of joy in being able to touch the cement that made up the walls or the bark that made up the trees. He welcomed the wind that caressed his face and felt bliss as the sun kissed his face. He'd never imaged that any human could display such a joyous expression upon being released back into society. Within his amusement, he realized that for someone who was unable to grasp what they wished to hold onto, living in itself was burdensome. What he couldn't hold onto, he could only let go, so it was time to release the grip he'd had on Orion for so long. He turned to Levi who waited in the car and smiled. As Levi smiled back, Shion slid into the other side as he enjoyed the soft purr of the engine.
Levi drove Shion towards the airport. The pair sat in silently appreciating each other's presence. In the airport, Levi checked in for Shion and himself. Without any baggage, passing security was a simple protocol. The randomized check and finally into the boarding gate. The flight was half an hour due to depart when Levi and Shion turned up to the boarding gate. Already, rows of people were already lounging across seats in deep slumber or finishing last minute documents before stowing it all away on the plane. Shion smiled to himself as he waited for time to pass. He dwelled in his though until Levi snapped his fingers to bring him back to reality.
"It's time to board," he said.
Shion brought out his boarding pass and passport which were handed over the airport staff. Once he cleared the final check, Shion made his way to the first class seating. Never in his life had Shion been on anything as luxurious as the seat he was sitting in at that moment. The reclining seat allowed its passengers to lounge at 1800 to fully enjoy first class luxury fifty thousand feet in the air. Blankets, refreshments, drinks, food and entertainment were all provided in this deluxe area of the plane. Seeing as everything was provided, Shion didn't hold back and blatantly enjoyed everything that the plane had to offer. When Levi turned to Shion to ask him a few things, he found that Shion had a bag of peanuts in his hands and a ring of tell-tale chocolate around his mouth. Upon being found out, Shion smiled innocently and turned away with red ears.
The flight lasted four hours which Shion found to be an exceptionally enjoyable four hours of his life until touch down where his turned green from the strain of motion sickness. Looking around the airport, Shion found tears welling in his eyes. He had returned. Five years ago, he had promised his family here that he would return when everything had settled down. He felt overwhelming shame and powerlessness at his inability to even protect his parent's company. The next one they built would surely be protected with his own two hands.
Levi hailed a taxi from outside the airport which took the pair to Shion's new address five cities over from his last. Holding just a pitiful backpack, Shion sat in silence admiring the view of more rural areas outside of the city. They turned up to a nice apartment block five stories high with a neat garden and clean exterior. The interior of the apartment exuded elegance and grace. The interior was filled with tasteful architecture and strewn with decorative trinkets.
Shion ran his fingers along the wall. This apartment block was surely more than he could afford.
"I can't pay you back for the apartment right now," Shion murmured.
"It's rented, I've taken care of the rent for three months after that it's a two thousand a month," Levi responded.
Shion's eyes shot towards Levi. He wasn't a walking bank, asking two thousand a month from him was enough to bankrupt him in two years. After this three months he would need to move back in with his parents. With just a backpack and the remaining three thousand three hundred in his backpack, Shion settled into the apartment. Levi took his leave within half an hour of arriving to return to the airport for his flight back.
