Chapter 42:

The pair continued wandering around the market until Shion's phone rang loudly.

Picking up, Shion heard Avery's voice on the other end, "Hey Shion, we're heading home first. Don't worry about us. Stay out as late as you need or just don't come home at all. Don't worry, I have an excuse and everything prepared already, so just go enjoy yourself to the max. I don't understand what you see in that guy, but I'm not going to stop you if you like him. Go have fun. Remember to treat me to dinner next time though."

With cherry red cheeks, Shion turned around and muttered under his breath, "Avery, that traitor."

"The others just ditched us and went home. They abandoned us," Shion grumbled.

Internally, Orion was celebrating, but he couldn't voice out his happiness externally, so he merely let his soul dance. I someone who recognized Orion were to see his current expression, they would say that he looked the same as he usually does, but there was something slightly off.

With a guilty smile, he shrugged, "Can't be helped. We can stay for a little longer if you want or we can head out now."

"...Stop making me make decisions. I don't like them. You decide," Shion declared.

"You're the boss for today, so you're making the decisions. I'm staying out of this one," Orion announced confidently with both hands raised in surrender.

Waving both arms up in surrender, Shion sighed, "Ok, ok, how bout let's head home?"

"So boring? We can explore some of the new things that have popped up around the city. We haven't been here for a few years, and you aren't keen on exploring what's changed?" Orion asked.

Secretly, although he was tired, he didn't want the night to end so fast, so despite leaving Shion in charge, he overruled the suggestion with a single question.

Having had his decision overruled, Shion pondered a bit. Thinking back, Shion realized that Orion was right. He hadn't actually been back for years. A lot of the places that he had once known, and been so familiar with had probably changed by now.

"Do you reckon that dessert place I used to go to is still around?" Shion queried.

"It might be. You loved that place didn't you. You used to drag me there all the time," Orion laughed.

"I did no such thing. You asked me what I liked to do with my spare time, and I told you I enjoyed wasting my money on edible products with excessive amounts of sugar in them. You asked me where I went, and I took you to the shop," Shion denied earnestly.

Orion complained, "Well, you didn't seem like the type of person to enjoy sweet snacks. It came as a surprise that you did."

Rolling his eye, Shion let out an unforgiving snort, "I don't like sweet things. I just like that particular shop's sweets. There's a difference."

"Then let's go there," Orion smiled.

The pair pulled through the crowded night market with jubilant faces. It was an atmosphere that usually surrounded by the common people, but for people like Orion who so rarely came across such open and free areas, it was a first. He adored the feeling of blending into the masses, and found that food, even when not prepared by Michelin star rated chefs, could taste good. He'd snacked on an assortment of street food that he'd never had the luxury of trying in his life. For the first time, Orion began understanding the world that Shion lived in a little more. Shion didn't belong to the elite of the elite. He blended in well with the masses wearing his regular tee and jeans rather than custom-made suits and silk ties. He abandoned high class watches for something of more efficiency, and found more comfort in wearing lightweight sport shoes rather than heavy Italian leather.
