[ nineteen ] the park
The next day, Calum visited Lucy and his friends went with him.
"We came to get you because we want to go to the park." Calum told her as Lucy led the four teenage boys to the living room.
"Where's Prudence?" Ashton asked.
Lucy grinned. "She's in her room. You can go see her if you want."
"You know what would be a great idea?" Michael smirked. "Prudence should come with us."
Lucy looked at Michael with confusion evident in her face. "Did I just hear you say you want Prudence to come along?"
Michael nodded.
"I'll go get her." Ashton offered.
"No, I'll do it." Michael said and pushed past his band mate, rushing up the stairs and down the small hallway to Prudence's room.
He knocked on her bedroom door and waited for her to open.
When she opened her door, he noticed the same expression on her face that he'd seen in Lucy. "Hey Prudence." He put on his most convinving smile. "The boys and I are going to the park and we were wondering if you wanted to come along."
She eyed him suspiciously. She saw right through him, since he didn't seem exactly thrilled to see her. "If one of the other boys put you up to this, you can tell me. You don't have to pretend to be nice."
"Pfft." Michael scoffed. "What are you talking about? I really want you to come with us."
She finally sighed. "I don't know why you're doing this, but fine. I'll go."

At the park, the group of teenagers sat at a picnic table, only a couple feet away from the playground. There were no children or people in sight, as it was late afternoon and beginning to get dark outside.
Prudence sat at the table, being ignored by the boys as they talked and laughed. Calum and Lucy were in their own little world, making out.
She watched as Luke and Ashton got up from their seats and ran to the playground, Ashton held his cellphone in hand and she knew they were about to record themselves. They climbed up the steps to the playground slides and then crawled into the colorful tunnels.
Ashton joked, "Can the two huge assholes get out of the playground?"
Prudence giggled at his silly comment.
When they returned, they began to film more video clips for their fans. The three of them had their eyes glued to their phone screens, huge grins on their faces.
She saw that it was evident how much they loved their fans.
Without a sound, she got up from the picnic bench and walked to a different part of the park, no one noticed she had left. Her feet carried her several feet away, where a very old tree stood atop a circular brick pedestal.
She remembered her childhood, when her dad was alive. He would bring her and Lucy to the park almost everyday after he got back from working at the hospital.
No matter how tired he was, he always put on a smile for his two daughters.
As she sat on the brick circular pedestal, her eyes filled with tears.
When Ashton noticed she was gone, he went out to search for her. Hazel eyes scanned the area of the park until he spotted her by the large tree. He saw her looking down at her hands, shoulders slumped in defeat and he went towards her.
"Why so lonely?" He asked.
Grey-blue eyes met hazel ones and she sniffed, wiping her eyes lightly. "I just thought you'd all be better off if I left." She admitted.
Sitting next to her, he shook his head. "We invited you, that means we want to spend time with you."
Changing the subject, she began, "I used to come here with my dad all the time. He and I were so close, you know. I miss him..."
He scooted closer to her and slowly, he slid an arm around her. At first, her back went rigid, but soon she relaxed herself. She laid her head on his shoulder and the two watched the afternoon turn into night. Both remaining quiet for several minutes.
When he finally spoke, he told her, "Go out with me tomorrow. I promise I'll do whatever I can to cheer you up."
"Y-you want to go out with m-me?" She asked nervously, her cheeks flushing crimson. "Guys like you shouldn't be seen with girls like me."
Ashton shook his head. "Don't buy into that nonsense. We're friends."
A smile graced her lips.
"I'm glad you consider me your friend."
