[ twenty two ] football

They arrived to pick up Prudence and Lucy in the afternoon. When they heard the honking outside, Lucy rushed to the door. Before she could open it, Prudence said to her sister, "Those boys have been acting really strange around me. Do you know why?"

Lucy grinned, "Maybe they have a crush on you. You are very lovable after all."

"I don't know, Lucy. Something doesn't feel right. Especially when Michael is actually being nice to me." She pointed out.

Lucy then opened the door to reveal four boys standing on the front porch. Three of them pushed past Lucy to get to Prudence, while Calum greeted Lucy with a kiss. "Hey Pru." Ashton told her, pulling her in for a hug.

"Hello, Ashton." She replied with a warm smile.

"Hey Prudence." Luke began, awkwardly.

"Hello Luke."

"Hey Prudence." Michael said before he pulled her in for a hug. He lingered for a few moments and she stood there, limp in his arms.

"Hello Michael." She said nervously.

The six teenagers piled into Ashton's prius car. Ashton sat in the driver's seat, with Prudence sat next to him in the front passenger seat. The other four were crammed into the back seat. "I'm squished." Lucy complained. "You boys are massive."

At the park, Prudence and Lucy sat down in the grass while the boys set up for their game.

"Lets split into teams of two." Calum said.

"I want to be on Calum's team." The three other boys blurted out in unison.

Calum looked at the three ot them, and made his decision. "I'm going to chose Michael."

"Malum versus Lashton." Michael announced.

Lucy grinned, shouting out to Calum. "I'll cheer for team Malum."

Michael turned in their direction, looking right at Prudence. He asked her, "You'll cheer for us too, right Prudence?"

"What about us?" Luke complained.

"Yeah," Ashton nodded in agreement. "It won't be fair if both girls cheer for you guys."

Prudence smiled at Michael politely before saying, "How about I cheer for team Lashton this time? And next time, I will cheer for you?"

Michael nodded at her, trying his best to hide his annoyance at her. Then he turned and stormed off towards the middle of the field.

The two girls sat in the grass, watching the boys play. To her right, Prudence heard the enamored sigh of her older sister as she watched the raven haired boy on the field. "Calum is such a great soccer player, don't you think so Pru?"

Prudence nodded, "Yeah, he's really good at it."

"And he's so handsome too." Lucy added, "I love him so much."

The girl with the golden hair and blue-grey eyes let a small smile grace her lips. "I'm so happy for you, and I'm glad Calum makes you happy."

"I just wish he were nicer to you." Lucy admitted, her smile dropping into a frown.

Prudence shook her head. "His words don't hurt me."

"But they hurt me because I love you. If he only knew you were sick...he'd be so much better to you." Her brown eyes filled up with tears.

"Out of pity." Prudence pointed out. "I don't want that."

Sniffing, Lucy decided it best to change the subject before breaking out into tears. "So, do you like anyone from church? Or what about one of the boys? Ashton took you out yesterday, do you reckon he fancies you?" She winked at her sister.

Prudence looked away, face reddening in embarrassment. "Oh, I don't think so."

"Oh my gosh." Lucy squealed. "You like him."

"I don't."

"You do!" Her sister accused with a grin plastered across her face.

"Lucy!" Prudence groaned, feeling her face becoming more and more red. "Ashton is only my friend."

"Ashton!" Lucy screamed at the top of her lungs.

His head turned at the sound of her voice and taking his distraction as a opportunity, Calum scored a goal.

"Lucy stop." Prudence begged.

"Wooo! I love you, Cal. Go team Malum!" Lucy cheered.

He was only a few feet away and he cut the distance between him and Lucy. He quickly bent down to peck her on the lips. He swiftly turned and went back to the soccer field where his mates were waiting for him.

Prudence sighed in relief.

She thought Lucy would forget about teasing her. But Lucy hadn't forgotten.

"Ashton!" Lucy screamed again.

Prudence tried to clamp a weak hand over her sister's mouth, but Lucy being stronger than her was able to pull her sister's hand away. "Ashton! My sister has a big crush on you. She think's you're the cutest guy ever! You two need to date! Please! Please!"

"Lucy!" Prudence yelled.

A smile broke out onto Ashton's face without him even being able to hold it in. He saw the embarrassment etched across Prudence's face and figured it was a joke Lucy was playing.

But even so, he found her blushing to be adorable.

Concentrating back on the game, he noticed the two other boys glared daggers at him. Ashton shot them a grin as he shrugged his shoulders. If they could read his eyes, they knew what he was trying to tell them. There's no way she's falling for your stupid game. She's too good for you.

"I don't see Ashton that way." Prudence told her sister.

Lucy cocked an eyebrow at her. "Oh, so do you like Luke then? I've seen you two exchange some bits of conversation before." She wiggled her eyebrows at Prudence.

"I don't find anyone particularly attractive or interesting enough to start a relationship with them, will you just drop it Lucy?" Prudence said, beginning to sound irritated.

"Alright." Lucy raised her arms up defensively. "But I will find out who you like."

Finally relaxing herself, Prudence sighed. "Well good luck trying to find out who I like because you will find no one."

The two girls continued to watch the boys on the field, this time in silence. Team Lashton ended up losing to team Malum, but despite their victory, Michael felt like the real winner there was Ashton.
