[ three ] -- take me home
"You're really pretty," He slurred drunkenly.
His stench was horrid. Prudence already having a weak stomach felt like she wouldn't be able to stop herself from throwing up in disgust.
She turned away from him again, having recovered a bit from her tired legs. She tried to walk away as fast as possible, but despite being drunk, he was still faster than her and caught up easily. He grabbed onto the upper part of her arm and yanked her towards him. The sixteen year old winced in pain. She knew she would have bruises forming immediately.
"Let go!" She cried out, trying to wrench herself out of his grip.
But the man ignored her. "I just want to show you my car." He said with a toothy grin.
"I don't want to go with you anywhere!" She said through gritted teeth, while attempting to escape the man's grasp to no avail.
He wrapped an arm around her waist and another went to clamp over her mouth. The drunken man was clumsy, but Prudence was no match for him. He dragged her along the sidewalk to a red car that was parked there, while she kicked and tried to scream. Tears ran down her cheeks as she realized she was powerless to stop what was about to happen.
Suddenly, a youthful voice said in the most menacing tone, "Get your hands off her or I'll fucking cut them off."
Prudence felt a pair of hands pull her assailant off her and soon a tall teenager with a mop of dark golden curly locks on his head stood in front of her protectively. Prudence held her hands over her chest, breathing heavily, still in shock of the moment. The drunk man watched the one Prudence remembered to be named Ashton and he spat, "Do you know this girl?"
"I'm her boyfriend." Ashton crossed his arms over his broad chest as he stared down at the man. "And I better not see you in this part of town because I'll fuck you up so bad that you'll need a wheelchair in your sleep." He warned.
The drunk man hiccuped before raising his hands up defensively. "I don't want any problems, boy."
Ashton chuckled darkly. "You don't want any problems now that you see I can fight you, but you were acting all strong when you tried to take my girlfriend?"
The man didn't reply. He just turned away and walked to the driver's side of his car and opened the door to get inside, starting the engine with a purr and then sped off into the night.
Seeing that they were safe now, Ashton placed his large hands on Prudence's bony shoulders. Running his hands down her arms, as if to check for scratches, his hazel eyes met her blue ones. "Are you okay?" Out of instinct, he pulled her into his arms and held her in his embrace. His heart was softened at the fact that she was shivering. She seemed so fragile to him, like a small glass ornament similar to the ones his mum put on the christmas tree every year at Christmas time.
She pulled away slightly to meet his eyes. "I-I'm fine." She stuttered. "Thank you so much for saving me..."
They remained that way for a few minutes until Ashton coughed awkwardly and they both pulled away, Prudence's cheeks flushing a deep pink color.
"I sh-should get h-home." She told him, gesturing down in the direction of her house.
She started walking down the street slowly, still recovering from the moments of fear she had passed earlier. Her head turned back in fear when she heard footsteps against the pavement in a hurried motion, getting louder as someone walked in her direction.
It was Ashton, who caught up to her with a smile.
"I'll walk you home." He offered.
She nodded, uttering a faint thank you and the two walked along the sidewalk together. She played with her fingers when the silence began to feel awkward between the two and the hairs on her arm stood up when their arms brushed against each other.
Ashton noticed her shyness and decided to be the one to break the ice since there were still a couple more minutes of walking to do.
"So...what made you think you could walk back home all by yourself in the middle of the night?" He chuckled.
She breathed nervously. No one had ever tried to make conversation with her before, much less a boy. And what was worse was that he wasn't just any boy, he was Ashton Irwin from 5 Seconds of Summer. He was famous and every girl in the world would have jumped at the opportunity to have a conversation with him. She wondered why in the world someone like him would choose to talk to someone like her; the invisible one, the reject.
She replied, "I didn't want to bother Lucy. She said she didn't want to go back to church to pick me up."
"But I think she'd much rather pick you up than expose you to all kinds of danger by letting you walk home. If I hadn't found you, who knows what would have happened." He countered.
"I just don't like being a burden on anyone." She finally shrugged her shoulders.
They turned onto her street and then, when they reached her home, he walked her all the way to the front door. Prudence hit the door bell and the door swung open in a second, revealing a worried looking Lucy and a scared Martha who feared the worst.
"Prudence!" Lucy cried out, wrapping her arms around her younger sister and pulling her inside the house.
"Ashton found me and walked me the rest of the way home." Prudence said, her voice muffled due to the fact that her face was pressed against her sister's chest.
Lucy turned to Ashton, her face expressing a deep gratitude. "Thank you, Ashton!"
"Where were you, Prudence?" Her mum questioned. When Lucy let her go, Prudence moved onto her mother who hugged her with just as much force but not before she inspected every inch of her.
"I walked home from church." She said as if it were something she normally did.
"Don't you ever do that again." Her mother scolded.
