[ forty four ] go to her
"Maybe the three of us should go and ask her to decide who she likes." Michael suggested. "And the losers can just back off."
Luke shook his head. "We don't even need to ask her to know who she likes of the three of us."
"Right." Michael frowned, remembering all the times he tried to kiss Prudence but was rejected. But she certainly let another kiss her sweet lips. "Ashton," He said, lacking amusement. "Its always been Ashton." And truth be told, he was jealous because Ashton didn't even have to try so hard, she immediately fell for him.
Ashton stood there in awe. His mates were truly like his brothers after all. They were willing to back off just so that he and Prudence could be happy.
"So go to her." Luke urged.
"Go before I change my mind." Michael said.
And Ashton rushed out the door. He quickly got into his car and drove in the direction of Prudence's house. He parked on the curb and ran up the driveway to the front door. He waited for a moment after knocking a few times. Prudence herself came to the door, a weak smile touched her lips when she saw him. "Hello Ashton." She greeted.
"Prudence, I know what you're hiding." He told her, in regards to her feelings about him.
Her face seemed to go paler than usual. "You know?" She bit her lip. "Who told you? Calum?"
Ashton's eyebrows knitted together in confusion. "Calum?"
"Calum was the only one that knew." She pointed out. Now that she had been discovered, she knew she had some explaining to do. But she wondered by Ashton didn't seem the slightest bit botheres by the news.
"Michael and Luke told me." He said.
Now she was confused. "Wait. What are you talking about?"
"Your feelings for me." He confirmed.
"Oh, that." She said, a hint of relief in her tone.
"What did you think I meant?" He asked, his hazel eyes full of confusion. The two had confused each other.
"Nothing." Prudence quickly shook her head.
In his excitement, Ashton didn't even stop to think that she might be hiding something from him. He was just overjoyed that he was the one she loved.
"Do you want to come in for dinner?" She offered, gesturing into the house. She and her sister Lucy had been in the middle of having a meal. Well, Prudence only watched while Lucy ate. As of the last few days, she had a major loss of apetite, and when she tried to eat, the food wouldn't make it down her throat before she was already gagging in disgust.
Because of that, her mother had to inject her with special vitamins and give her certain pills so that she could get the nutrients she needed.
"What are you having?" Ashton wondered with a smile.
"Vegetarian lasagna." She replied.
"Sounds great." He said and she led him into the house.
"What took you so long, Pru?" Lucy's question came as the two teenagers walked into the kitchen. "Oh, hey Ashton."
Ashton replied with a friendly wave of his hand. "Hey Lucy."
He sat at the table while Prudence went to the cupboard to get him a plate. She then placed a good square of lasagna on it and set it down in front of him. Ashton instantly began to dig in and smiled. It was the best lasagna he ever tasted. And he made sure to let Prudence know it.
She sat at the table with them and pretended to eat. But actually, she moved the food around to make it seem as though she was eating.
"You're not even eating." Ashton frowned when he noticed.
"Yes I am." Prudence argued, grabbing a forkful of lasagna and stuffing it into her mouth. The food didn't even make it halfway down her throat when she felt nauseated. The lasagna was making its way back up and she barely had time to excuse herself.
She ran up the stairs to her bathroom and locked the door, falling on her knees before her toilet and spilling out the contents of her stomach. There was hardly anything there, only bits of lasagna she tried to eat and the rest were pools of crimson colored blood. That was when everything became too much for her and the tears spilled from her eyes like waterfalls.
Looking up at the ceiling, she cried, "Why did you have to put them in my life?" She asked the invisible being above. "I only got attached to them for nothing. I was fine when no one paid attention to me."
Prudence curled up into a ball and cried into her hands. "Why won't you let me live so that I can be with Ashton and my friends?"
When several minutes passed and she didn't return, Ashton began to worry. He left the kitchen table and trudged up the stairs that led to her room. By now, she was in bed, crying silently. Ashton could barely hear her from where he stood on the other side of the door. He attempted to get her to open the door, but nothing was of use.
Eventually, Lucy asked him to go home and he did.
That night was the first and only time Prudence ever questioned the actions of God. She wanted to be with Ashton, she just didn't have enough time to spend with him anymore.
