Martha parked in the driveway and called her youngest daughter on the phone, asking her to come outside.

The other teens had just left for the movies and Prudence was at home alone.

She watched with worry etched across her face as her daughter walked the short length of the driveway. Prudence looked pale, tired, and thin. Despite her putting on a brave face all the time, Martha knew she was akways in a state if constant discomfort and sometimes even pain.

As she got closer, Martha saw her daughter suck in a breath and a small smile appeared on her lips.

Prudence was always so positive minded, something Martha coudn't do at a time like this.

Her frail hand gripped the door handle when she was close enough and she opened the door, getting inside the mini van.

"How are you feeling, sweetheart?" Martha asked.

Prudence nodded with a smile, strapping herself in. "I feel fine, mum. I don't understand why I have to go to the hospital so many times."

"Its just a regular blood transfusion." Martha reminded her.

Prudence sighed.

"Yeah, regular."

The two walked the hallways of the hospital expertly.

As they passed them, other nurses and doctors smiled at them politely, yet there was a hint of sadness and pity in their stares. No one ever found it fair when someone so young was diagnosed with cancer.

But Prudence was used to it.

Ever since she was a child, she would often spend time with her mum at the hospital. At first it was because her mum worked there, but when she got older, she was often there because she was ill.

Still, her smile was permanent. It was ever present, despite her condition.

Her mum led her to the back rooms, where there was a complex apparatus on a counter and a padded chair right next to it.

Already knowing what to do, Prudence went to sit on the chair and slid the sleeve of her sweater up her arm slowly. The purplre finger marks Calum had made on her sensitive skin were still there. Her mother gasped, "Prudence, what happened to your arm?"

Prudence shook her head, thinking up a convincing lie so she could convince her mum. "I was...going down the steps for breakfast and I tripped. And Ashton caught me."

"Ashton?" Martha asked.

Her daughter nodded, "He's a friend of Calum's."

"Ah, the curly haired boy." Martha remembered him. Grabbing a hold of her daughter's arm to examine the damage, she said, "Well...he's got a really strong grip."

Prudence agreed and her mother let her go.

She was then hooked up to the various tubes that would fill Prudence with healthy blood from donors.
