She was happy. Totally happy. All smiles, crinkly eyed happy as she laughed her heart out with the different performances that were happening that night.

Yes, she was tired, too. Her eyes showed it. But she was still happy.

Despite feeling quite... incomplete.

It was the night of her birthday party, thrown by her fans. And though she was happy to be able to spend that night with people who loved her - her family, friends, workmates and fans - she would still rather be in his arms that night.

Too bad he still had taping for their teleserye and wouldn't be done until late - her smile faltering a little bit as she thought of him.

She had her phone with her on stage and as she was taking photos and videos of the whole event, a message suddenly pinged through. The smile that lit up her face when she saw who it was would give you an inkling as to who texted her.

Hello, mahal. Miss na kita. ☺️

She replied giddily, as she bit her lower lip, her smile now full blown.

Miss na rin kita. 😘 Sana nandito ka. 😔

Patapos na rin kami dito in a few. I'll see you tonight after. 😍 Kamusta ang party mo?

She sighed as she contemplated what to tell him. Should she tell him how tired she was and if not for the makeup that her glam team put on her - her puffy eyes would give away how much she would rather sleep than be there? Should she tell him she would rather have his scent around her rather than the perfume that her sister spritzed on her before the party started? Should she tell him that she would rather have his arms encasing her rather than the tight, body-hugging dress that she wore beautifully that night for the party?

She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. No. That wouldn't do. She didn't want to be a downer and she knew if she did tell him those things - he would leave his shoot and come straight to get her, their shooting schedules be damned.

She shook her head as she tried to get rid of her sad thoughts. It wouldn't do for her to be thinking these, especially not during her own party.

Just then - her nephew came on stage and started waving and dancing, much to the crowd's delight and hers. She laughed as she suddenly found an excuse to FaceTime him, just so she could see his face.

She eagerly called his phone via FaceTime and turned the camera to capture her nephew, who at that moment was all giggly as he turned around on stage and waved at everyone present. When he answered, she smiled as she finally saw his smiling, bedimpled face.

"Mahal! Bakit ka-- Teka... Si Matti ba 'yan?"

"Oo," she answered softly, glad that she was on stage and her phone was quite far away from prying eyes. "Ang cute niya 'no? Naisip kong ipakita sa'yo kasi alam kong matutuwa ka."

"Awww... Sayang wala ako diyan. Magsasayaw kami ni Matti on stage. Hehehehe. Pero syempre, after kong isayaw n'un ang pinakamamahal ko."

"RJ..."

"Menggay, lipat mo naman na 'yung camera sa'yo. Gusto kitang makita."

So she did. And he smiled wider upon seeing her, his eyes softening as he took note of how she looked.

"Hello, mahal... Ang ganda ganda mo naman ngayon."

"Wooshoo. Bola pa more," she replied, trying to sound cheery though she wasn't able to help the small sob and sniffle that escaped her lips.

"Uy, mahal naman," he answered, brows furrowing as he noticed her suddenly watery eyes.

"Wala 'to," she grinned as she faked a yawn, wiping her eyes daintily so as not to ruin her makeup. "Antok na kasi, eh. Sunod sunod na walang tulog at taping. Tapos ano pa--"

"Menggay ko," he cut her off, voice taking on a serious glint as he extended a finger towards the screen - as if touching her. "'Yung totoo?"

She then took a deep breath as she closed her eyes. Once she opened them, she stared back at him and smiled uneasily. "Wala lang. Miss lang siguro kita. Ikaw lang wala dito. Party ko pero 'yung taong pinakagusto kong makasama wala dito."

He then sighed before chuckling. "Hay, mahal. Matatapos na rin kami. Sabi ni Direk - isang sequence na lang and then wrap na kami for tonight. Mga one hour or so na lang 'yun. Tapos pupuntahan na agad kita."

"Promise?"

"Promise," he smiled at her before puckering up his lips as if to kiss her. She chuckled. "Ayan. Smile ka na. Party mo tapos malungkot ka. I'll be there in no time, mahal. Hintayin mo lang."

"Ok."

"I gotta go na muna, Meng. Tawag na kami ni Direk. Mamaya na ulit ha? Tandaan mo, mahal na mahal kita."

"Mahal na mahal din kita, RJ," she whispered before he blew her a kiss and ended the FaceTime call.

She then faced the crowd; and while her mother and sisters looked at her knowingly with smiles on their faces, most of the people around didn't notice that she was not exactly at the party for a couple of minutes.

Rather - she was where her heart really was.

With him. Even though he wasn't physically there.

She then grinned and continued on taking videos of her nephew, who was still on stage entertaining the crowd.

And just as she turned off her camera to concentrate on the program - her phone pinged again. This time, her grin was more genuine and laced with excitement as she read what came through.

On my way na, mahal. See you soon. 😚💛
