She woke up disoriented, groaning softly as she slowly sat up, hand on her head.

Shit. What happened last night?

She ran a hand through her messy hair and looked down on herself, noting her nakedness. Her eyes grew wide and she turned, quickly grabbing the sheets to try and cover herself and then... seeing him.

Oh my god. Why is he -- Did we -- Shit.

He started to move and groan as well, his toned biceps flexing as he stretched, the sheet falling to his waist, exposing his defined chest and abs, making her gulp.

Shit. Shitshitshitshit. What do I do?? I can't exactly --

"Maine?" he softly called, voice hoarse as he was opening his eyes and feeling for her beside him.

Too late.

"Come here," he said sleepily, giving her that dimpled smile of his that was her weakness. "Come back to bed, it's still early."

"RJ, I --"

"Please," he added. "Even just for tonight."

She shook her head, still clutching the sheet tight around her. "RJ, I'm sorry. We can't. I can't. You have to --"

"Maine, please," he pleaded, sitting up slowly to face her, reaching out for her. "We just got from Jerald's wedding. You agreed to this. You wanted this. We can be this again. If only you'll let it. Let me."

She continued shaking her head. "I can't. This - whatever this is - this is a mistake. We can't... Not anymore."

He sighed and scooted closer to her, giving her a quick kiss on her lips, one that she didn't reciprocate. When he moved away, she stared at him, her eyes resolute. He sighed once more then stood up and started gathering his clothes.

"Maine --"

"No, RJ. Please. Just go."

He took a deep breath and closed his eyes, as he continued to dress up. He walked over to her and gave her a final kiss on her forehead.

Then he walked out the door. And maybe out of her life. This time, perhaps for good.

When she heard the distinct click of the door closing, she finally broke down.

"I'm sorry," she sobbed brokenly. "I'm sorry I'm a coward. But I just - I can't. I can't RJ. I'm sorry. I'm sorry... So sorry... Sorry..."

She wept that night. With no one to hear her. With no one to console her. With only her own arms to wrap around herself as she rocked herself to oblivion.
