She was quiet as they were seated in front of their wedding planner. He was smiling and very animated as he engaged the planner with what they - no, he - wanted to happen on their wedding.

"Love, what do you think?"

"Huh?" she snapped out of her thoughts and turned towards him. She noticed his smile falter a little because she wasn't paying attention. "I'm sorry. Can you repeat that?" she tried to smile, although it felt more like a grimace.

"Are you ok with carnations on the aisle of the church? Yellow carnations, right?" he softly said, reaching out and squeezing her hand.

She squeezed back, trying to reassure him. "Yes. Yes, that's all right, babe. That's all right."

She was hyperventilating, her heart racing as anxiety wracked her body. She was in her hotel suite's bathroom, trying to calm down as tears were cascading down her cheeks. It was the night before their wedding and she was having major, MAJOR second thoughts.

Am I doing the right thing? Are we doing the right thing?? This is too quick. We're being too quick. We can't get married. This is wrong. No, I can't. I can't do this. No.

She went out of the bathroom and took her phone from the bedside table. She dialed his number, hoping that he would pick up and at the same time, hoping that he would not.

He did not.

She got his voicemail instead.

"RJ, it's me. I'm sorry," she sobbed, her voice breaking. "I can't. I just... It's too much. I'm sorry. I just can't. Please forgive me. Forgive me, love. I love you but... I -- we -- it's... We're happy but it's not our time yet. I'm sorry. I'm so so sorry..."

She put down the phone and turned it off, knowing that he would call immediately after receiving her voicemail. She took her things around the room and quickly packed, making sure that she didn't leave anything.

Then she took one look around the room, breathed deeply and left.

He was running to her room after calling her numerous times and always getting her voicemail. Obtaining an extra key card from the lobby, he went to her hotel suite hoping she was still there.

"Maine? Love? Are you here? Maine? Maine!"

He went through every nook and cranny, finally stopping by the bed and seeing her ring by the bedside table. The engagement ring that he gave her. He plopped down on the bed, taking the ring in his hand, staring at it unbelievingly.

"Maine... Why?" he asked brokenly as he started to weep - his question would remain unanswered for a long time.
