girls and guys have different core fears.

girls are afraid of being abandoned and left alone. at some spiritual level, a girl will fear being left behind. because females were created to never be alone.

guys are afraid of the fact that they are not strong enough. not being able to handle a crying girlfriend. not being "the real deal".

sarah was definitely afraid of being abandoned, left alone and behind. she was afraid of being lonely.

yamaguchi didn't look like it, but he was afraid of not being able to handle tough situations and acting girly, or what people call "gay", when he's not.

both of them were dating, but they were still afraid. sarah being afraid that one day, yamaguchi would leave her, and yamaguchi being afraid that he couldn't cheer sarah up when she needed it.

so they made it a thing to have some time together and reassure each other of their fears. yamaguchi telling sarah he'll always be there by her side and would never leave her, and sarah telling yamaguchi that he was strong enough and was capable of handling her.

somehow, it not only reassured them of their insecurities, but strengthened their bond.

yamaguchi would always be by sarah's side, and sarah's problems were never too big for yamaguchi to handle.
