A taken soul

Alex's POV

I clenched my jaw and fisted my hands as I watch Astrid fall on her knees while talking to someone over the phone. By the looks of it, her human friend is dead. I honestly don't care about that human but I am more concerned on Astrid. She'd been kind to humans and I hated watching her like this.

"No, Teresa. She can't be dead." She was crying hysterically while clutching her chest from emotional pain.

Every tear that falls from her eyes are pricking my heart like small needles. I noticed Damien approached from my peripheral vision and I shook my head at him which he immediately understood that it's not the time for him to talk to Astrid.

"Do. Not. Touch. Me." She hissed with bitterness.

I hated it every time we fight.

"I'm very sorry for your loss." I apologized sincerely and knelt beside her. She was still beautiful even in her despair.

"Don't you dare feel sorry when you refused to save her." She spat with hatred.

She watched that human grow old, spent time with her and treated her as family. The death of Teresa probably reminded her of her family's death in which I never wanted to look back to. It's a horrible event that I never wanted Astrid to remember. It's better if she forgets everything until the end.

"I'm sorry if I couldn't save her."

"Liar! Of course you can!" She screamed her voice shaking from too much crying. "Let's be frank here.

I sighed. Everyone is destined to die and if you go against it, you must offer a big prize."

"Ano nga ang kapalit?!" Sigaw nito. "I am willing to give just to bring her back."

"You can't bring anyone from the dead, Astrid. It's too late for her." As much as it pained her to know the truth, she needs to know.

"No." She sobbed shaking her head desperately. "Tell me we can still bring her back. You're lying, Alex. Tell me you're lying!"

I hugged her and she surprisingly stilled, probably because she was already exhausted from too much crying.
"Let's stop now, princess. She's gone." I whispered placing a soft kiss on her head and hugged her tightly while she continue to cry.

"You don't understand, Alex."

"I know." I assured her.

"To me, Teresa was a sister, a friend, a mother. She was everything. Though she was a human, she was always there for me, more than willing to protect and take care of me. She was my family, Alex. She can't be gone. I have no one now." She cried and all I can do was to rub her back soothingly as I closed my eyes from the pain it caused me. Her cries are like nightmare to me and I'm sure I will be haunted by it for the rest of my life.
