Forgive but never Forget

"Mother?"

"Come here, my dear Ivanna."

She speads her arms waiting for me to come and wrap my arms around her but I was frozen. I stood still as I look at my mother in front of me. She was wearing a white dress so long  that it reached the floor. She's a beautiful woman and I adore her so much. She had an assuring smile in her face and her blue eyes were telling me that it's alright.

Everything around us was white, it was blinding me.

"What's wrong, dear? Why aren't you coming to me?" The smile on her face vanished and was replaced by a frown.

"I— you're dead. How—"

"Yes, I am dead. Didn't you miss me?" She asked.

"I do but—does it mean I am also dead?" I asked and walked slowly towards her.

Once I was in front of her, she wrapped her arms around me and patted my back. That was all it took for my emotions to come out. It felt so good to be in her arms again, it was comforting, it made me feel safe.

"I do miss you mother. It was hard without you and father." I sobbed and hugged her back.

"Sshhh... it's all right." She consoled and wiped my tears with the pad of her fingers.

"I'm so glad I'm with you now."

"Oh dear, as much as I wanted to be with you, you have to go back." She said sadly.

"But why am I here? Am I not dead yet? I remember the king killing me with a dagger." I exclaimed and as a reflex I looked down at my chest to check if I still have the wound from being stabbed but I saw nothing.

"It's not your time yet, Ivanna."

"But I wanted to stay with you. I don't wanna go back. Please mother." I plead.

My mother sighed and caressed my cheek softly. "I'm afraid only the superior being can decide with that and I believe there is someone back there who is longing for you, waiting for you to comeback."

Jus as instantly, the memories of Alexander came flooding to me, the look of horror in his face before I collapsed was something I will never forget, and suddenly I wanted to come back but despite that, half of me wanted to stay with my mother and forget everything.

"But mother I want to be with you. I'm so tired of my life, tired of hating, tired of seeking revenge. I wanted to rest and be happy with you here."

Cupping my face with both hands, she maintained eye contact with her blue eyes that I had last seen before she died.

"Listen to me, Ivanna." She ordered with authority in her voice. "Please learn to forgive. Forget everything and everyone that causes resentment in your heart. Revenge will not give you the contentment and peace you wanted. We are all happy now and I want you to be like us too. I am your mother, I don't want you to be  like this. The Ivanna I know is lovely, kind and forgiving. This is not you, dear. Learn to love and forgive yourself too, and I assure you, you will find real happiness."

"Mother..." I couldn't find the right words to say as I cried in my mother's arms.

"Remember that whatever happened in the past is already forgotten and forgiven. I love you so much my Ivanna."

I felt her place a soft kiss on my forehead before she was gone and I was only hugging the thin air.

"I love you too, mother." I whispered although she was already gone.
