Seventeen years later

Moving on was really hard. Seventeen years was a really long time but for creatures like me, it was nothing. We'll have longer years to live and if you're lucky to stay alive, you'll live for eternity.

Some people were given longer lives and some had to go earlier than others. That's life. People come and go but some will remain forever.

When I say moving on, it doesn't mean I've forgotten. The wound in my heart isn't completely healed yet but I've learned to forgive myself. There were times that the past tried to torment me but I've grown stronger. I wasn't as weak as I am before and I'm no longer a coward.

For the past seventeen years, I've never forgotten him, his last words always in my memory. He was true to his promise, he never followed me or looked for me. I wonder how is he now? Is he still waiting for me?

When I left Alex, I didn't know where to go but I decided to live faraway, where everything is peaceful, and the people where kind. It was such a nice place, I will never forget the people and their hospitality but I needed to leave. I always have to.

It was hard for me to hide what I really am. I needed to leave before they start noticing that I never aged. Yeah, perks of being a vampire.

So I thought it was time for me to go back to the place where I really belonged to. To the city that held great memories of me. I left this place with teary eyes but I came back with a smile on my lips.

On my way, I passed by the building which seemed to be Adrian's old clinic. It was only a two storey building before but I think all his hard work payed off because it was now a hospital. I couldn't help but feel proud of him as I made my way inside the hospital and there I saw a family portrait. His family. He looked happy, with his wife beside him and two children in front them. That's a really lucky girl, I thought.

Someone must have been maintaining this place.

A real friend like her is very rare in this world. I guess I'm just lucky I found one.

"Teresa Villanueva. Who is she, mom?"

Smiling down at the girl who was kneeling in front of Teresa's grave, I stroked her hair softly. "She was my bestfriend."

"Can I ask why she died?" She stood, wiping off the dirt on her knees. At sixteen years old, Lia has always been curious. She asked many questions, some I couldn't give her the answers yet. She's beautiful, with brown eyes and curly hair. Many admired her including a large number of boys.

She was one of the reasons why I'm still living. Lia gave me hope to live and to continue fighting.

"She'd reached her life span, I guess."

"But mom... isn't she a vampire like us?"

"No, sweetie. She was a human, a very kind human." I smiled, stroking her long hair lovingly, admiring her beauty.

Then from behind us, we heard a voice. A very familiar one. Someone that I was not expecting to see at the moment and someone I'm not yet ready to meet.

"Astrid."

I froze. I will never forget that voice nor the feeling I get whenever I hear my name from him.
